Agreed. Just saw it at the cinema, amazing movie. Had goosebumps throughout the ending speech and almost, almost, shed a tear when his wife walked in afterwards.Winston_Churchill wrote:

First of all, it seemed like half of the HP cast was in this movie, I was waiting for some guy with no nose to come have a magical battle with dumbledore. Anyway, it was really well acted and a great and extremely interesting story. It was incredibe how well the scenes were done so that you felt so sorry for the Duke whenever he stuttered, especially in public. Very witty at parts too, surprisingly funny. Definitely worth the watch.
is taht the french movie about the guy joining the corsican mafia in the prison?Shahter wrote:

very good, if somewhat naive. exceptional actors' performance. definitely a recommend.
p.s. props to uzique for reminding me to watch this one.
Yeah, I thought so, but I meant the facts in general, the setup, the characters involved and their interaction. Making a movie rather than a documentary comes with trade-ins I guess, but I think this would have worked better as a documentary rather than a movie.Kmar wrote:
Relatively accurate .. ofc it was a hollywood production. Know that if that room wasn't made of wood Hitler would have been killed.
I read about that some weeks ago. Was meant to get the book. The author came back not the same after that experience according to an interview. The life there is so different, that he often misses it, despite the horrors he saw. Fascinating.Kmar wrote:

There are plenty of documentaries and lower-budget films about the operation already.Sisco wrote:

Thanks for clearing that up. I still felt it was a bit to hollywoodesque. Lots of "dramatic" close-ups etc. It´s worth a watch I guess, but somehow it doesn´t "feel" right. I can´t really describe it.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:

This has been a very well documented and publicised resistance movement as many Germans have felt the need to distance themselves from the actions of the Nazi party by greatly publicising the actions of German resistance movements/assassination attempts.
Also, I did a research essay on the accuracy of Valkyire and for the most part it was quite accurate (surprisingly). One of the major deviations was the lessening of other members influence in planning/execution (Olbricht especially) in order to create a sort of "hollywood style lone hero" out of Stauffenberg. Of course they also had to show people doing things that were actually carried out by others simply to reduce the number of characters. However, the specifics of the operation, attack and timeline are indeed quite accurate.
it has that habit of belonging to a french 'aesthetic' where everything seems to be a symbol for something else in life.Shahter wrote:
the movie's not quite about that, actually, but yes, it's french and the main guy does go to prison and gets... ehm... stuff to do with corsican mafia in there.
I found that to be quite ordinary. Armadillo was pretty good imo.Kmar wrote:

I saw that and was rather disappointed. I expected more to happen in a years time, plus that Captain didn't seem particularly good at interacting with the locals. Anyway, all those Afghanistan documentaries get me pissed off at the shitty situation of that country.Kmar wrote:
