I know. It's against the law in most of the free world. The shit they pull over here is unbelievable.
I am curious tho.. how much these phones cost you? The primary reason for locking people to a carrier here is so they don't get screwed because of the subsidized phone. Obviously they make it up in the long term.
If you buy a phone with NOTHING what-so-ever in the form of commitment (or network functionality untill you buy a subscription) something like an Xperia x10mini will cost ~1800 DKK which is just about $325 (keep in mind all tech is more expensive over here)
Get it with a subscription and you can get it for as low as 1 DKK, but eventually you will end up paying for the phone over those 6 moths, you can save some money if you buy a fitting subscription rather than the cheapest phone price tho'
e.g. I got my i780 with a subscription that dropped in price every 6 months, now I pay next-to-nothing for unlimited SMS, MMS, normal call, internet & dial-up price
I do think the only way the phone companies over there get away with the rediculous crimes to man is because they have HUGE areas to cover if they want to say they have "100% coverage" like most companies here can....
