100 sled dogs were killed because business was low in whistler post olympics.  Not by euthanasia, but by shooting or cutting their throats.

Yeah, this happened in my home town, its pretty disgusting, the Vancouver sun article is a bit disturbing. It's real shit and everyone around here seems out for the companys blood.

Whats fucked up is they weren't trying to hard to find homes for them, this was happening at the same time I was adopting Jasper, and he's the only husky in the area I heard of that was up for adoption at the time.

Exactly.  They really put no effort into trying to adopt them out.  I have friends in whistler that had no idea this was happening.  The company had so many better ways of dealing with this.

IMO the business is dead now.  Good luck making money now.

They could have at least contacted the local asian type food joints and asked if they wanted to by the meat...

Then like was said before, there are other threads here for your shit. It happened in my town and the op knows people here, so we have a connection to it. Not every thread has to involve you, and it would be preferable if most didn't. Its not Uziqueisafaggot.com after all.

The cull came to light because of a successful WorkSafeBC claim for post-traumatic stress by the employee who killed the dogs over two days last April.

The worker said he suffered panic attacks and nightmares because of the grisly scenes that unfolded as he carried out the company

I would've flatly refused and told them "sure, but I'll stand here and film you while you shoot them yourself. After that, it's going onto Youtube."

As to Uzique's cynical thoughts about this, it's true that there's a gap in logic here, but this was pretty unnecessary. There are animal rescues that would have at least given them a chance at adoption. But since he's probably just trollin' animal lovers here, I'll leave it at that.

I was talking to one of the librarians at my school, and apparently she was at one point close friends (at university) with the guy that (apparently) told the other guy to kill the dogs. She was pretty bummed out because he seemed like a decent, nice guy, they went out for beers and whatnot.

My brother had a wolf half-breed one.  Beautiful animal.  Huge and scared the shit out of anyone who didn't know her when she bared her teeth.  But I often wrestled with her, putting my hands into her jaw, and not once did she ever bite hard on me.  In fact, I just had to raise my voice, and she understood perfectly who was alpha.

Sorry to hear what happened to the dogs.  Probably takes an owner of one to understand the loss.  Dogs would, without hesitation, give up their lives to protect their masters.  Cows, not so much.

One of the things I was wondering about, is how they
managed to get 50% more stock than they could keep. Did they inflate the stock by that much, for the one month of the olympics, knowing they would have to get rid of them after.

The sled dog companies here have had lots of complaints as far as their treatment of the dogs go over the years. A friend worked for them a few years back and he quit one night and took a dog with him because of how they were abusing it.

Also the company who owns the sled dogs pulled all the dogsledding pamphlets from its office beside my work.

Comparing it with livestock specifically bred for food production is a bit different. We're omnivores and we eat cow meat.
(How animals are kept and food is mass produced is of course worrying.)

But those dogs were apparently only needed for the business opportunity that the Olympic Winter Games brought.
A business that obviously doesn't last forever.

Shoot them in the head? sure
Cut their throats? oh fucking no, that is just cruel!

ofc it's sad that they had to die for no reason, but honestly if the alternative is starving to death then the choice is obvious..

But from what Nic said the company didn't try getting families from some of them and that's just beeing assholes
