anyone been on this today? the site has been slowed down because it's extremely popular (some 75,000 hits per minute), but it's pretty interesting. you basically plug in your address and the government police records on crime in your area will be mapped, detailing the type of crime/incident and the street that it happened on. it also gives information about your local police constabulary, amongst other things.

so, what do you think? the whole project alarms me quite a bit, actually... although i suppose crime statistics/records should be made public to everyone. certain areas/streets getting a notorious reputation cannot be good for anyone involved, though...

That's pretty cool, I'd be interested to look at that for my current neighborhood, and anywhere I planned on moving.

In California we've got a similar site but it's for sex offenders only. Pretty funny, informative, and sometimes creepy, like when you remember the police hauling away an older man who lived down the block that would fruitboot around the neighborhood and say hi to all the kids outside playing and then see him when you look up people near your own address years later.
