I am trying to access the recovery console via a Windows installation disk(XP that is). The problem is I never get to like the "main menu" where I can choose wether to enter the console, install or quit. It just goes straight to asking me on what partition I want to install the OS. Solution?

The other questions
Are there any downsides with having a lil "too good" power supply?
And is it somehow dangerous to use a power supply that is not quite up to the task?
Example: standard 250W power supply with Intel E5200, 9800GT, 1 HDD.

Is it booting from the disk? I assume so, but that's all I can think of right now. It seems to be skipping out the first menu, are you using the same version disk as what you have on your pc?

Can't have a "too good" power supply in regards to wattage, the pc will only use what it needs to when it needs it. A stable current is more important really. As is efficiency.
Can't see how it would be dangerous, just means your pc either wont work or will fluctuate. Wouldn't recommend it. If you're looking at buying the best bet is to go for a reliable brand, eg: corsair, silverstone, antec, ocz or thermaltake. To name a few decent ones. (inb4 shitstorm of people arguing over brands).

Use a calculator to check how much you need, you might get away with less wattage if it's a decent PSU but this should give you a rough figure of what you'll need to buy:

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

When you boot from Windows CD, you will get to the part where you have the choice of either installing/repairing windows, enter the console or exiting.  Hit R when you get to this point and you will then enter the console.  Select where your OS is installed (normally C and away you go.

Other questions
No.  Well, your electric bill might be an issue lol.
Yes.  It will not have enough power to power your devices, e.g, vid card, motherboard, etc. It wouldn't necessarily be dangerous, just your computer will not work...lol
