Tuesday evening, organizers met their goal of raising $50,000, just six days after the whimsical campaign began.

The initiative began as something of a lark last week, when Mayor Dave Bing responded to a question on Twitter and said the city has no plans to build a RoboCop statue.

Some people are saying that this kind of money should be raised for things that matter, like public schools. Other people say this is just pure awesome.

Personally, I think it's hilarious. If people want to donate to this cause, that's fine, it's their money they can do what they want with it.

Maybe the effort people put into saying all money should go towards public schools should be put into public schools. A statue of RoboCop would be awesome, and far better than nonsensical abstract city art.

I've never watched Robocop either. Never really got into that. He's a cop, I don't have time rooting for cops. The same with Captain America, he's part of the machine. Where's the fun in a superhero like that?

That totally isn't what RoboCop is about.

Also, the man behind Captain America was pretty much destroyed by the super soldier procedure. That's the tragedy.
