Have been playing BF2 for awhile and have seen these roll and jumping forward attacks, anyone know how to?

the dolphin dive? some say it makes it harder for the enemy to hit you in CQC if you jump and then immediately go prone.
the only roll I can think of is that little flashy thing spec ops do if you go prone while running. but that's only a graphics effect, I believe.

When you jump + prone + move to the side your player does a little roll. but only peopel looking at you can see it.. you can't tellthat you're doing it.
Does it have any effect ?? I have been killed many a time when someone makes a rolling dive while firing at me, and I am certain I hit them but seems to miss because of the roll ?!
