Were his shots at all accurate?
Accuracy of the Desert Eagle 50AE is just fine, if you take the time to shoot it properly.
It's not a Hammerli, by any stretch, but it'll put (big) rounds on target reliably.

I wouldn't mind having one as a backup sidearm in bear country.
9mm isn't going to do much against a charging bear at close range, and a bolt action long rifle is useless in such a situation, so you need a decent pistol as a backup.

the "cool" factor doesn't come from the gun.  it's the predator style tri-beam laser target designator and  official desert eagle ankle holster that let people know I'm a cool customer.
Do you have the company hat, the polo shirt, the watch, the lapel pin, the coffee mug, the bumper sticker, and the writing pen?

'cause if ya don't got all that, you ain't a Cool Kid™, doncha know.

(which is about all the HK online webshop is good for, HK branded Cool Kid™ junk.  Can't order parts from them online, but you can order an HK waterbottle!  )

Seriously tempted to pick up a FN HP MkIII, though. Miss having one around.

And traded out that junk Trijicon scope for a Nightforce.  It was in stock, the store didn't have any Zeiss scopes with 30mm tubes, and I didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks to special order a scope.  NXS 5-22x50, very clear, can see small birds in trees 1150yds away.

What about as a backup weapon for hunting, in case you come across a grizzly?
In the US, you better have bite-marks on your ass as proof it was attacking you, before you start shooting at a Grizzly or Wolf.

Protected species and such.

You're better off with a Glock 20 or 29 for bear country. 10mm Auto will stop a bear.

I like to use Corbon +P hollow points in the USP when I go out into the woods. Corbon also makes some kick ass 10mm for big game. It'll punch through an entire car like butter. I always use those for the G20SF.

The 1911 model was the Covert Custom II

Springfield makes good 1911s too. That's the one I got.

Colt aswell.

When I was in Illinois a few years back, we stopped by a hunting and fishing store for some supplies, and they had a whole bunch of comedically huge revolvers which were apparently for fucking bears up.

Quite nice.  Very fine, crisp, clean lines. Very easy to "mil" with, between the crisp lines and the clear glass.
MOA reticle, MOA turrets - makes life a little easier when they match.

I don't remember the last NF scope I looked through (a few years ago) being this clean and clear.
Are they using the FL glass from Schott/Zeiss?

Nice.  I'm a fan of MOA/MOA setups.

The reticle in my USO

I'm not a reloader but i'd guess you'd use some kind of primer pocket swaging tool.

I shot my ruger mini-14 on monday (first time) and the thing was pretty accurate. It kept misfeeding though. The magazines I used were shitty crap quality.

Actually, it's quite common that poor, off brand magazines can cause failure-to-feed issues. Bad springs, misaligned, sticky carriers, etc. I know, I had a few "trade show cheap" mags for me .223 that I just stopped fucking using cause they wouldn't feed right.

  • Make sure the feed lips aren't mangled (i.e. the curvy metal bits at the top of the magazine that keep the top bullet from falling out)
  • Make sure the follower (plastic or metal bit that the bottom bullet sits on) isn't canted, bent, tweaked, broken or mangled
  • Make sure the spring hasn't taken a set (last few rounds jam) or weakened (first few rounds jam)
  • Don't use craptastic el-cheapo magazines to save $5/magazine
  • Don't load the full magazine.  In a 20 round mag, only load 18.  In a 30, load 28.
  • Make sure the magazine is fully & properly seated in the rifle.  Pull on it once you've inserted it, to make sure it's in right
