I have an Old Dell 8250 sitting around. Back in the day I reformatted the HD and lost many pictures. I was wondering if there is a way to recover them.
Thanks for the link but does anybody have any experience with such programs? Were you able to recover all/some/few of lost files? Isn't reformatting different than deleting.
Technically - no.
By 'deleting' a file, Windows marks the area it was on as writeable. It doesn't actually get 'deleted' or 'overwritten' until a new file is put in its place, the information is still technically there.
With a quick format, you essentially do the same thing. The success rate is pretty low though, and I think you have to pay for that program. But have a google, there's loads out there, probably some for free, just hope the bits you need haven't been overwritten.

I did use it for a couple of years after the reformat. Oh well.
