... also, on this side of the coast, they are preparing the X-37B space plane for a launch today.
They aren't telling the public much about the payload.

the Atlas V should be cool to watch. I really like the Delta II's. I was able to see the booster separation on the kepler launch all they from the opposite coast at night.

I even got a picture of it.. which is hard as hell, considering the speed it travels, distance (115 miles away), and at night.

Guess they'd have to tone the liftoff thrust down a bit if there were plans to transport people in it at some point. Flattening G-forces.

that was mildly exciting. i wasn't expecting it to go so fast. i guess it's smaller than i imagined, hard to gauge scale from the video

absolutely.. the shuttle weighs a hell of a lot more also.. The amount of thrust is sick

"LAUNCH FAILURE DECLARED by NASA launch director Omar Baez."

This is the second straight failure for the Taurus XL rocket because of a problem jettisoning the payload shroud from around the payload during ascent.

Commentators / people talking sound pretty disappointed.

That's because the Taurus rocket's nose cone did not jettison as planned.

Rocket-maker Orbital Sciences and NASA had spent the past two years troubleshooting and redesigning the nose cone separation system after the Orbiting Carbon Observatory was lost in February 2009. The new system has flown successfully already aboard Minotaur vehicles. But this return-to-flight for Taurus has failed because the fairing remains attached and the vehicle doesn't have enough speed to reach orbit with all that extra weight
Fuck, would have been a very helpful satellite.

Taurus debuted in 1994 and has six successful flights to its credit, putting 10 satellites into orbit. It has failed three times, including now two in a row.
This is second straight failure for the Taurus booster because of problems separating the nose cone. NASA climate satellites lost in both

A bit fail. A shame.

I don't keep up with launches as much as you do, Kmar, but how is NASA's record in the last few years?

The only failure I remember in the last couple of years was the same rocket.. February 2009.

this one http://www.space.com/3355-nasa-climate- … ilure.html
The 972-pound (441-kg) OCO spacecraft was NASA?s first satellite built exclusively to map carbon dioxide levels on Earth and understand how humanity?s contribution of the greenhouse gas is affecting global climate change. The satellite carried a single three-channel spectrometer to make its detailed measurements and was slated to launch into a near-polar, sun-synchronous orbit that would fly about 438 miles (705 km) above Earth.

Me too.  Bring that shit back to Florida.
