Chuy and Afro found that it was laggy even with 3.4 ghz and 3Gb RAM, but it was unoptimised. It should be fairly BF2-like, as it's based on the same graphic system I think, just with a few new addditions.

I'm currently looking into getting a new PC. I can get a fairly decent system for about $2500, I'm getting at least 2MB of RAM and it's 3.4 ghz, but I can upgrade that too. Any video cards you suggest?

When you're computer is eight years old and you've had 128 Mb of RAM and no video card, (nadda, nothing, a void where a video card is supposed to go,) you'll realise that the system I'm talking about, although it may sound pretty average to you, sounds like something from the year 2500 to me.

And I'm paying $2500 for a whole new computer. Everything new. There is nothing salvagable about any of my computers.

I will dispose of these two computers in the most violent way possible.

Wow, I'm starting to steal Stryyker's job...

I've seen people: [comp destruction]

1) Shoot with guns
2) Shoot with potato guns.
3) Blow up with illegal C4 (they had the certification to purchase it, just not the permits to detonate it at that time)
4) Hammers.
5) Jackhammers.
6) Very powerful subwolfers.

What do you plan to do to top this tyf?

Well, with one of them I'd quite like to see if I could get it to Singapore. I'll try some kind of catapult. That'd at least get it to the bottom of Wellington harbour, (I'll weigh it down so the fucker dosn't re-surface.)
For the other one, I don't know. I really only had the plan to shoot it wirth a shotgun, but some thing tells me that's not enough. I may try some sort of home-made flamethrower.

I could also see what I could achieve with compressed air or dry ice.

I'll definitly be buying a new computer before this comes out.  My 2.2 Ghz P4, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128Meg VC and 1.5 Gig of RAM is barely good enough for BF2, I'd hate to see what it looks like inside the reactor of a Titan full of people.  Besides, I've had this PC for 2+ years, time for some new hardware.

I was guessing that the system requirements would go up after SF needing more RAM that BF2....
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

You know what would piss everyone off?  Making BF2142 a DirectX10 game!  Aww, your 7900GTX and X1900XT aren't supported anymore?

As I've accumulated massive amounts of computer crap over the years I too have gotten very creative (and violent) in disposing of them.  I found out:
1) RAM sticks make good impromptu throwing knives.  They have sharp corners and are fucking impossible to break.
2) Hard drive platters have a nice, shiny coating and can be used to make a really geeky wind chime.  Hard drive magnets are ridiculously powerful.
3) Pentiums and older can be sold on eBay for a decent amount for scrap gold recovery.  But it's more fun to take a hammer and chisel and uncover the actual circuitry of the chip.
4) You can take the hard drive magnet from step 2 and deface old CRTs with them.  This also works on TVs, older ATMs...pretty much anything with a cathode-ray tude in it.

DirectX10, and Vista are due out next year. How would they make this DirectX10?

A spokes person for dice said at E3 they wanted to get the specs required as low as possable to allow more people to play. It should be a tiny bit above BF2s requirements, because of things like weather effects e.g. snow, rain ....

I know DX10 isn't due for another year, what I was trying to imply was...by the time BF2142 is finally released, who knows, it may very well be 2007.  Hell, Duke Nukem Forever has been re-written for 3 different graphics engines, each one from a different 3D generation.  Yes, that's an exceptional case but given EA's history ("Euro Force will be out February 8...okay, February...okay, March...all right, before April, we swear"), it's definitely possible.

This is a new API, they would have to build the game from the ground up for it, and plan around it. Not, develop for Directx9, and one day say "hey lets change it to DirectX10." So, no it's no where near "definitely possible."

Geez, if I'm gonna get nitpicked every time I make offhanded, joking commentary at EA's expense, I won't bother anymore...EA roxors my boxors, they've never made a stupid decision, programming, marketing or otherwise, their release dates are beyond reproach and have always been met in the past.

For Christ's sake, if I wanted to say something that I knew would prompt such a self-righteous, closed-minded, mirthless reaction, I'd go argue with my friend about how UFOs don't exist.
