Geez, if I'm gonna get nitpicked every time I make offhanded, joking commentary at EA's expense, I won't bother anymore...EA roxors my boxors, they've never made a stupid decision, programming, marketing or otherwise, their release dates are beyond reproach and have always been met in the past.

For Christ's sake, if I wanted to say something that I knew would prompt such a self-righteous, closed-minded, mirthless reaction, I'd go argue with my friend about how UFOs don't exist.
This makes no sense. How am I self-righteous, or closed-minded? I'm simply correcting your post, it's just not feasible. By the time DirectX10 is the norm, or standard, it will past this time next year, if Vista releases on time in January, or February.

Sigh...it's 3 AM and I'm working off of adrenaline (and 2 hours of sleep) at the moment.  I've seen two final exams and a five-page paper in the past 24 hours--English being, as my Queen's English du jour attests, still heavily on my mind.

I re-read what I originally said (nodded off halfway through) and I take it back.  I could have been a lot more lucid in making my half-baked joke, and the fact that I left half of my English final exam blank earlier today probably isn't helping my usually good decorum right now.

psychotoxic, sorry we got off on the wrong foot.  You're right, DX10 won't find its way into BF2142 unless John Romero becomes head of DICE.   I'm usually not such a bitch when people contradict me, let's blame that on college and a profound lack of sleep, okay?

As I've accumulated massive amounts of computer crap over the years I too have gotten very creative (and violent) in disposing of them.  I found out:
1) RAM sticks make good impromptu throwing knives.  They have sharp corners and are fucking impossible to break.
2) Hard drive platters have a nice, shiny coating and can be used to make a really geeky wind chime.  Hard drive magnets are ridiculously powerful.
3) Pentiums and older can be sold on eBay for a decent amount for scrap gold recovery.  But it's more fun to take a hammer and chisel and uncover the actual circuitry of the chip.
4) You can take the hard drive magnet from step 2 and deface old CRTs with them.  This also works on TVs, older ATMs...pretty much anything with a cathode-ray tude in it.
The magnets in CD drives are pretty powerful too, but I'm not sure if they are that powerful...

Might have to go break open one of my old hard drives...
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

You cannot install DX10 on to your card. Nvidia makes a driver where all there cards will be Vista ready, but that does not mean it will support DX10.

i doubt very much if it was laggy on a 3.4ghz and 3 gig ram thats like standard machine nowadays it will prob have min spec of this

2ghz pro

1 gig mem

4 hd

and a semi decnt card

thus making it a lil bit above the min spec for when bf2 came out .

The Latest video cards from ATI and nVidea are HDMI and Vista Friendly (7900 series X1900 etc.), so EA and Dice aren't going to piss off any more people than usual, just people that like to bitch about anything they can find a reason to.

I think it's running the same game engine, a bit like bf1942/bf vietnam. Which means all bugs will ported across.

As for 2 mb RAM, my soundcard has more than that, so I take it you mean 2gig of ram

I hate to think the machine I paid nearly $2200 for in november is gonna need a processor upgrade. but it probably will

Highly unlikely that

A) it would be a Dx10 game.  It's only for Vista and since it's still using the BF2 engine, they're really not updating anything.  As someone else mentioned, Vista's not out until next year (along with Dx10).

B) Those cards would not be supported in Vista.  All that you'd need are new graphics drivers for Vista.

The E3 demo was, in fact, laggy.  Having played it, I noticed it pretty quickly.  You'd figure they wouldn't screw around with less-than-ideal system configs for E3 either.  There's still some work to be done on optimization.  I'd also like to seem them make use of dual core cpu's.  id's already done that with Quake 4.

Yup, for Windows Vista, which isn't out yet.
