Yeah, it definitely does

I'm gonna see if I can drive on the beltway to school today for the first time

Did it successfully, I even dropped this girl off at the salon that I'd been talking to in class for about a month and a half.  But when she got out she said she was scared of my driving, cuz I made a really shitty merge at the end where I was bobbing into the other lane while checking behind me to get another lane over so I could make the turn into the shopping center.  But she was still smiling when she said it though, so it can't be terrible.

Merging has always been my weak point

Hach, I remember my first days with my new license. I was pushing the clutch and shifting gears really hard, made my passengers nod like crazy

Having a license and a car is one of the best things in life.

Well, if I didn't actually scare her with my driving, then I'd say it definitely may have helped, I've only had my license two days, and I've already had a girl ride in my car, lol.

Other than that, I haven't really seen the benefits, but I have to get better at not worrying while I'm doing it, and also slowly start to realize that I can go any place I want by myself as long as I got the gas money for it, and my Crown Vic gets surprisingly good gas mileage on the highway too.

There is so much to once car. I have so many awesome memories. It´s less about actual benefits (apart from not having to endure people in the public transportation), but about the possibilities it offers.
Since I´ve moved to austria I can´t afford a car anymore and it´s the thing I miss the most after my family.

I didn't actually mind the people in public transportation so much, but having to run on a precise schedule is a bit of a liability

I wish I had a better sense of imagination with which to find and capitalize on those possibilities, but like I said it's all a matter of it sinking in.

Bring a GPS.  Unless you know how to navigate using the moon or sun.  That's the way I used to do it when I went exploring, before GPS usage was common.
