I was a passenger in a jet the other day and we would fly to the boundary and the plane would instantly turn 180 degrees.  I was thinking "WTF" and I watched the minimap.  We appeared to flip instantly 180 degrees when we hit the boundary lines.  I have now noticed this at least 3 times looking at jets on my maps.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Is this a bind, technique, programmed buttons/joystick, hack, or what?  I bought the 3d Extreme joystick and I can't get a jet to do that.

No, that would be the jet doing a half loop and rolling out, also known as an immelman maneuver.

Basically, the jet pulls up until it is completely upside down, then it does a half-barrel roll to right itself again.  The effect is that the jet changes direction completely 180 degrees from its starting position.

for me it sounds like he was flying to high and started spinning out of control.
apart from that a full 180° turn isnt possible except you hit a tree/pillar with the wingtip but thats seldom and very dangerous. also on the el alamein map is an invisible wall that lets you either spin around or just explode.
maybe some more info could help (map, lost control or not etc.).
apart from that it could be an immelmann

If you do the half loop and look on your HUD map you will see the effect you are talking about it looks like it changed 180 degrees instantaniously.
