Field Commander- in the battle gettting kills and calling in arty and caping flags.

Off the map Commander- hids off in a house or under a bridge and calls stuff in from FARRR away.

So....what are you?

I aim to be an "off-the-map"-commander. Only way to use Scan properly.

Off the map commander unless it's the beginning of a round with few people or a server that has a max of 20 people or less.  Then I'm field commander.  It's too hard to command properly with more than 20 people in server as a field commander.  Most of the commander's I've seen do that, end up losing the round and using all the assests for themselves.

Depends on the situation.  If there are less than 8-ish people per team, a fighting commander is a necessity, otherwise, I park myself in a TOW an command away.

I try to stay near my commander assets so I can repair them if they are destroyed.

Unless its a 16 person server.  Then im a field commander.  In a small server you need all the help you can get taking flags.

I'll hit the field only if my team consists of a load of useless prats.

Otherwise, the only real way to support your squads is to sit on your ass and spot enemy stragglers. Kinda sad that way, and not exactly a Pattonish way to gain glory...but take it up with DICE.

I mostly play on 64 player servers, so I guess I'm an off the map commander.

I don't like to command and fight (not good enough to do it well which makes it stressful) so I won't command if I have a choice if there are less than around 20 on each team.

But I'm not an off-the-map commander exactly, I hide but not way off in the boonies; I like to stay close to the assets usually so I can at least try to defend them or repair them myself without having to 'waste' a supply crate on them which is better used for keeping our armour healthy.

I'm not a commander. And you field commanders: Stay away from the hw and the most off the fighting, not like mine commander this round:

Off the map. I'm only on the field, when it's absolutly neccessary, like an attack on my own assets. You can't do a proper commander job, while fighting.

I'll defend my position as a commander, but I won't go looking for fights. As other people have said, your team is there to kill the enemy, you're there to make their job easier.

On that map, I'd say it was necessary for him to do what he did. Ten players on each team and all... Need all the help you can.

Full server = off the map
10-20 people on a server = field

No, he took a plane, crashed it, if he was lucky he took one guy with him. In facts he was nearly never able to command. 40 deaths is 10min of doing nothing.

This guy is the perfect example of why commander's should never be in an aircraft of any type.

depends on situation. i generally try and hide in an out-of-the-way place in enemy territory, i find i die much less. if i can spend 2 miuntes and change the tide of battle, i will. (e.g. everybody dead at a neutral airfield). otherwise - its off the map.

the vast majority of the time I just play back in the map with my face in the command screen.
but I do my duty to kill lonewolfs/spec ops that sneak into my area on my own.  if the server has less then 20 people per team the chances that i'll hop into a vehicle and provide some direct combat support increase as one more pair of boots on the ground can go a long way.
