Afghanistan: Drone missile 'killed two US soldiers'
This is the first case of FF by a drone I think I have heard of. It is sort of ironic considering the major point behind pilot-less vehicles is to minimize military losses.
The marines, who were watching a video feed from the armed Predator drone overhead, saw infrared images moving towards them on the feed and may have concluded that those were insurgents instead of fellow marines, NBC reported.
Looks like the controllers on the ground were using their ROVER feed and mis-ID'd the IR dots.

Does a 10-Year-Old CEO Violate Child Labor Laws?

Just a look at the bias in this article against kids working or, apparently, learning how to work sort of explains the deranged face of today's education system and media's influence on it. Some of the comments make it seem like she's being sent to a sweatshop by her parents. FFS, she updates a catalog of eraser heads. God forbid kids are exposed to bits and pieces of life before they get kicked headfirst into it. None of my schools required a single lesson in economics, aside from it being a part of the JROTC coursework.

I suppose the reason I'm irritated about it isn't so much the issue, but that so many news articles have become nothing more than blogs and editorials knee deep in writer/company bias.

Why do most American presidents place a hand on the Bible  to take the oath of office? Secular education has made that a meaningless tradition, but the tradition exists because the Bible is the secret of America’s freedom. Forget the Bible and America will go the way of the first Protestant nation – Nazi Germany.
...
Almost everyone desires a happy marriage, but without the Bible, America cannot even define, let alone sustain marriage as one man–one woman, exclusive, and life-long relationship. The West became great because biblical monogamy harnessed sexual energy to build strong families, women, children, and men.
...
Human history knows no force other than the Bible that has the capacity to dam sexual energy to build powerful families and nations. Indeed, no non-biblical culture has ever been able to require husbands to “love your wives” and give them the spiritual resources to do so.

Why? All it does is help the big parties maintain their hold. Instead of you voting for Ralph Nader and the vote staying with Nader (perhaps as protest), your protest vote gets ignored and your vote ends up in the hands of whoever is the Dem.

What you end up with is a two party system like present except the only protest vote is not voting at all. It effectively destroys all other campaigns besides the big two.

First thing that popped up on google search after I heard about it on the radio, and the writing style was pissy enough for me to dump all over. I'm confident enough not to have to find reference to something on BBC to sound more sophisticated.

But I kind of agree with your line of thinking in regards to the article. It was clearly written by a kids should be kids idealist. What if the parents were broke and her idea spawned a business that provided for the rest of the family? Does that necessarily make the situation wrong? I don't think so.

Why is it we allow children to take and take and take without ever expecting anything in return? When did that change? Used to be that you had kids because they were supposed to care for you when you became too old to work. Now they take and take and bitch when they have to pay for your retirement home. Now, I'm not saying that we should be shipping our kids off to work in factories to provide for the family. I just don't see why the author of that blog seemed so personally offended by the setup that family has. Like it would be abject cruelty on the part of the parents if they ever dared touch a dime of their kids money.

Maybe I have a different perspective because I grew up poor but my mom used to raid my savings account full of birthday money and the savings bonds given to me by my grandparents. When I found out about it later in life I was understandably upset but my mom wasn't taking that money to buy a new pair of shoes for herself or a manicure. If she took it it was to put food on the table and to keep the electricity on. What's a few hundred dollars when she spent hundreds of thousands of dollars caring for me over the years?

Anyway, I dismissed the article because I thought the blog was making much ado about nothing and it wasn't really worthy of comment. But you as a poster here at DST deserve more than me dismissing your source with a sarcastic comment so there ya go

I don't think it's a small issue at all. Kids are being overprotected to the point of never being taught the value of work or profit. Being given a few bucks for a job well done or a video game for a series of jobs well done has an enormous impact on the positive development of a work ethic in kids. If they can work at home for money, why shouldn't they be able to sell...eraser heads for money?

Kids understand profit implicitly when presented with it. Want a kid to brush their teeth? Don't spoil them with toys, but promise one they want for six months of clean gums. They're not going to understand or care about the condition of their teeth in twenty years, but they will understand a pump squirt gun with a water tank backpack.

My family was a thread from absolute homelessness in my early childhood. Since they couldn't afford daycare, I ended up helping my dad on several job sites with layout. So I suppose the article tweaked a nerve unpleasantly.

I hear ya. I've been working since I was 13. My mom stopped buying clothes for me when I turned 14 (among other things. i never had an allowance or anything of the sort) and I've had to buy my own ever since. My fiancee wonders why I go clothes shopping only once every few years
