I'm a fairly experienced aviator (135+ hours) who has always flown with a mouse and keyboard but I want to try flying with a joystick. It seems to me that most of the best pilots in the game fly with joysticks and I'm hoping this will take me to the next level. Anyhow, could any experienced  pilots let me know what joysticks they would recommend? Cost is a factor although I won’t short change myself and buy a crap stick just to save a couple of quid.

If you do post could you put up three facts - one, how many hours you have in aircraft - two, your K/D ratio in planes - and finally, why you would recommend the particular stick you think is best.

Apologies for being so demanding but I really need the advice of some kick-ass pilots.

Thanking you in advance - your pal,

Viper38

16 hours, and .75 kd, but my first 100 deaths were using keyboard and mouse.

I use Fox Pro 2 Force Feedback by Thrustmaster.  Good Enough for me.  probably be better if i hadamore expensive one.

Thanks for that Turtle - Just checking out its spec now. Oh and don't short change yourself - your K/D ratio is climbing 0.82 now

I got about 180 hours and around 7.5 K/D, can't be arsed to get exact numbers :-p

I got a saitek cyborg stick, which works pretty well. Having said that I don't use it for BF2, I learnt to use kbd and mouse first and really can't be bothered to figure it out again with the stick. It works well with flight sim type games tho. Not sure how much they are, I got mine ages ago, but as far as i know they still make them.

TBH Viper mate, you really don't need a stick if you can fly with the mouse, which you obviously can. The only real benefit of the stick is you can stick all the usefull buttons (flares, chute, exit etc...) on the stick too which might save you a death once in a while compared to using the kbd. You can turn just as fast and sharp with a mouse. Anyway, it's your $$$ so its up to you really

36 Hours 4.01 K/D Ratio Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 all the way.  I've had this joystick since it came out and I love it.  They quit making it so if you want to look at it your're going to have to check Ebay.  I've heard great things about the Logitech 3D Pro, although I have also heard that the joystick looses calibration after about 6-8 months and there is nothing you can do about it.  Another good choice is the Saitech X52 flight system.  Although this one is a little over the top for just BF2, its good for flight sims and got great reviews.  Over all the Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 has never given me any problems, nor have I ever had to re-calibrate it from its purchase 2 years ago.

Thanks for the advice so far ... seems the Cyborg is popular. Anymore pilots with some suggestions?
