Yeah, no dice on that. It's just a label on the knife handle plus an instruction sheet. Was going to take a pic of them if anyone was able to take a crack at it.

looks like kana, not kanji... which means they're syllabic. guess you could be a real sleuth and go pair the scripts with their meanings and then translate from romaji->english

Is it like Chinese where every character is a word instead of a letter?

nah, that's kanji... a symbol directly responds normally to an object or meaning. kana is a syllabic system which basically means every character matches to a sounded utterance that you can just literally string together and pronounce. more like the roman alphabet where every single letter forms a sound that then pronounces a word. kanji is taken from chinese normally directly for the traditional things that don't need new names/definitions... kana is often a more modern way. i think (though im no japanese expert) that you can just match each one of those symbols to the corresponding letter/sound and then just spell the words out - a-b-c. you can punch that then into something like google translate (jap terms in roman alphabet are called romaji) and then hit the 'translate' button. im sure you'll get some comic engrish results.

Makes sense, it is carbon steel. I thought it might be something cool like the Wusthof trident

I just wash/dry my good cutlery immediately after using it.  Damascus gets messed up if ya don't. Using a magnetic strip or a butchers block?
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
