I just wash/dry my good cutlery immediately after using it.  Damascus gets messed up if ya don't. Using a magnetic strip or a butchers block?
Wooden saya

Edit - I knew before I bought it that the carbon steel would patina up pretty quickly, but the thing already looks worn after a single use.

Its Japanese Hiragana

Transliterated to something you could say;

Ikane sahimasu yokuwaremasu or Akane sushi-masu yo ku-wa-remasu

Don't know what that means, but I can mostly read the script

Don't know why, but the first one looks like Katakana, in which case it'd be Hagane.

Hmmm.. Hadn't seen one of those before.  Does it come into contact with the cutting edge?  I love my Damascus steel, but admit you've got a nice knife there.  Be careful, not because you'll cut yourself -but you're going to want to buy the entire set of those puppies.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

Nah. I'm not a collector. If I do end up buying another knife it will probably be a Chinese style cleaver.

And the saya is cool. It's a plain wooden sheath that I plan to lacquer black sometime in the near future. Then I'll paint on one of my tattoos in gold to personalize it Way better than a knife block (We already have two blocks anyway )!

That works and will make for an afternoon project.

Yea... Knife blocks are bad news.  Freakin bacteria traps.  Also if one doesn't slide the knife in upside down it wears the edge every time it is removed/replaced.
