Okay, this is specifically addressed to all the patch-whiners who hypocritically continue to play the game, or to anyone who wants to just re-open their eyes to the greatness that is Battlefield 2. This may also sound like an upcoming preview report of Battlefield 2 before it was out, and the purpose of that is the same as the purpose of this post.

Anyway, Battlefield was, and still is, one of the greatest games out there. The graphics are top notch, at a level that in two years will still seem like 'great' graphics. The gameplay is absolutely absorbing, hundreds of thousands of active players, online and offline, still play this game ritualistically to this very day. There are plenty of unique concepts which make the game so apetizing.

For one, this is the only game with a full time commander player. If anything is comparable to this it is the Intelligence Officer of Global Operations, but even the Commander scene of Battlefield 2 dwarfs it big time. BF2 successfully, and that's the key word for introducing a new untested concept into a game, brings RTS strategy and teamwork into a FPS, in a way that can stimulate the greatest gaming experiences. Being a commander, while still a measly soldier on the battlefront, enables you to barrage the enemy with artillery shells, resupply and heal teammates with crates, see every enemy on the map and place UAVs, from anywhere on the map.

Squads and their integration are amazing. The VoIP control is handled wonderfully. Squad Leaders as spawn points, while abused at times, is an absolutely invaluable and wonderful method for fighting well on the field.

The implementation of seven whole different classes is also amazing in itself. Having a different type of soldier, and not just soldiers, but weapons, creates a new aspect on diversity and teamwork.

The ranking and statistic system is like no other seen before. Even great games such as UT2004 had a stat system that is totally humiliated by DICE/EA's ranking system. With different soldier ranks and medals, badges and ribbons that can be earned through fulfilling requirements, it makes players stick to the game and increases replay value for players want to get such and such. The availability of this gives bragging rights which makes players feel proud and good, and also lets a player see his faults and good points. It also encourages the player to explore different classes and types of gameplay.

And more I can't be arsed to explain right now. Just typing this makes me want to play BF2.

So until there is a patch that makes 50,000+ players leave like the Sony Star Wars Galaxies patch did, stop complaining, and appreciate BF2 for what it is; an amazing video game.

And then there's the armor/jet whores, retarded team-mates, spawncampers, arty whores, baseraping...

Agreed.  BF2 is truly unparalleled, which is why I'm still playing it 10-15 hours a week 10 months after its release.

Always look at the bright side of...BF2!

I havent had a "proper" sesh for 5 days now, plan to make up for that tonight.

No other computer game has ever "bitten" me like this one has. While it has its faults it's a brilliant game. That just shadows real life. You can find a fault with most things and yet still enjoy them.
