The ISPCC (Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) will soon be airing this both daytime and evening TV:

Do you think it gets the message across well or do you think it takes it a bit too far?

Personally, I think the ad portrays well what goes on behind close doors of the less fortunate out there. I was hit as a child but only when I deserved it, and I would have no problem hitting my children if they deserved it. But beating a child senseless for some sort of power trip is just outrageous and needs to be dealt with.

Whats your thoughts on the video?

I think it's a great ad. There's no "too far" IMO... if shock value is what gets people to do something about it or at least be aware about it, the better. Hell, it's already working: it's got us talking about it.

Maybe it does go a bit too far, for a daytime add.
But maybe that's exactly what we need.

If they make another another boring add that doesn't show you anything of whats actually happening, you will just change the channel.
But this is so (almost painfully) in your face that you cant look away. Its the same as with a disaster on the news. Its terrible, but everybody keeps watching.

But people watching doesn't guarantee that they'll actually do something, but it does help.

There's a significant problem with child abuse in New Zealand, there have been some truly awful high profile ocurrences. I'd welcome a campaign like this here, our campaigns against family violence are ineffective and naive. They're all about appealing to the abuser's sense of decency "It's not okay to beat your family" - yeah, no shit. You think that kind of stuff gets through to the kind of cunt who beats up their kids or bashes their baby to death?

I agree. That ad is tame in comparison to what some of my friends grew up with. I myself was very fortunate to have great parents, something I've always felt grateful for. Hopefully this ad prompts people to make more donations, they surely need it.
