In this day and age of Battlefield 2 point whoring, it's hard to find a server not running Karkand or Wake. Karkand is a fine map, don't get me wrong; I've played over  50 hours on it. But after a while (50 hours) it gets old, despite what some people *cough most of the Top 10 cough* think.

What's a good map rotation for a server that would get it and keep it filled, without being city maps only, karkand only, wake only, or Knife and Pistol? I'm thinking that for a 50 man server, that

Kubra Dam 64
Dragon Valley 64
Dalian Plant 64 (debatable)
Karkand 64
Mashtuur 64
Songhua 64 (again, debatable)
Clean Sweep 64 (d-b8)

would be a good rotation. However... Dalian can be really unbalanced towards the Chinese side because of the J-10's godlyness. Songhua just isn't very popular, even though I think it's well made. Sweep suffers from the same issues as Songhua.

An ABK-server would be nice, it's a pity to have to leave the server when you have a good squad.

Ground Pounder Map, City Map, Mixed Map, Air Whore Map. Repeat.

For example:

Karkand, Sharqi, Dalian, Wake, Songhua (or Karkand again), Mashtuur, Kumbra, Oman.

That way, you get a mix of a bit of what everyone wants. If all I want to do is fly a plane, I can do that on 50% of the maps. If I want unfettered ground pounding action, I can do that on 25-50% of the maps. If I want to use a heli, I can do that on 50% of the maps. If I want a mix, well 33% of the maps are mixed maps.

...and yes, i'm aware that you probably meant BF2 and not SF, but if a server had this rotation, i'd play there as much as possible.

My biggest complaint is that servers switch maps too quickly.  I like to spend a little time with a map before switching.  If the server is set-up for long rounds (e.g. 64 map with 24 person limit) ... then 1-2 rounds per map is fine.  But, if the server rounds are going to go quickly (10 minutes) ... then I really like 3 rounds per map.

I personally like a variety of 64-maps ... so long as the server avoids Wake and Zatar

I agree with this.  I like 2 rounds for 32/64 player maps.  They also have to swap teams after each round so you get a taste of both sides.  I find that most servers that don't switch end up with one team just crushing the other over and over as some people can't get the WCR out of their head. 

Smaller map servers should do at least 3 rounds per map.  My friend looks for 24/7 servers as his comp is slow and he hates reloading maps all the time since the round is half over before he gets in.

Agreed - every server, imo, should have team swap at end of round. 2 rounds per map, no more and no less.

Map rotation, imo:
Karkand (64 player - and to start the rotation to get people to join the server!)
Sharqi (64)
Dragon (64 - depending on size of server. 20man servers and 64 size dragon gives V.Long rounds)
Mashtuur (64)
Dalian (64)
FuShe/Oman/Daqing (64) - take your pick. Im not a huge fan of Oman and Daqing, but it is nice to play them every now and then.

I would leave Kubra out - personally, I just hate the map since its too much Infantry running if you dont get a vehicle at the start. Just plain annoying. My most hated map in the game.
Songhua is a good map, but not a lot of people like it. I dont mind it, I just never play it (duno why :S ). Same with Zatar.

Wake - I couldnt care less. I dont mind it, depending on what happens. Providing the US can take a spawn point and work up the island, then it is fun. If not...its crap. Might be a good one to throw in for the air whoring part of the rotation and to get more people in during the less so popular maps.

Depending on how popular your server gets, then maybe throw in Songhua or others if you like them. If people enjoy your server and continue to come back to it, then they will be more willing to play those maps that aren't so liked.
Stick to the popular ones first - once you realise certain people who keep coming back to your server every day or whatever - then bump in 1 or 2 of those maps such as Songhua.
