Does anyone have luggage that they swear by? I've never cared about it, a duffel bag always sufficed, but apparently it needs to go on the wedding registry... So, anyone got a favorite brand?

Currently I've narrowed it down to:

and

But it's still wide open.

I like Samsonite but Marine is right.

Although I've been using a Ralph Lauren suitcase for a while and it works pretty well.

I gotta look at my bag at the house.  Fucking badass.

samsonite is nice, one of my friends had one and it survived a fall down an escalator going up.

My luggage for overnight trips mostly boils down to my giant laptop roller case, its compartments, a duffel bag and whatever else I grab while I'm there in plastic sacks. I've never thought about it enough to come up with a favorite brand.

There is your reason.  I've got a set I got over 15 years ago that is still going strong, taken to Asia many times.  Wife got a cheapo set (she assumed it was ok just because it was bought at Macy's), that only lasted one trip.

While Samsonite's are great, they tend to be overpriced unless you get them at the Outlets.  Interesting enough, you should check out Ross Stores.  They actually carry some pretty good luggage on the cheap.

I don't worry about brands...I look at features. Namely, the wheels and weight. I'd stay away from hardside, but that's just my preference, having owned both.

I recommend finding a set that has the features you like and is in your price range wherever you are registered, then go with it, regardless of brand.

If you get a cheap one I doubt it will have worldwide warranty, as more expensive stuff can have.

Find yourself a Samsonite with a hard plastic shell. You get a lot of quality for the price and cheap suitcases are just that - cheap. Don't expect a cheap one to hold up very long, especially if you fly a lot. I've got a clam shell Samsonite that I found in a thrift store for $7, but brand new these things sell for quite a bit of cash and it's absolutely bullet proof. It's been across the Atlantic and around Europe more times than I can count and only has a few scuffs to show for it whereas my girlfriend's cheap suitcase has had the wheels ripped off it.

I travel light: a small travel bag and at times a garment bag for carry-ons. If I run out of clean underwear......hasnt happen yet
