Is it a "Functioning" or "Fertile" womb? Don't most women become incapable of bearing children in their late 40s? Does this mean the daughter will not be able to bear children?
Oh my!
Menopause is a hormone change that stops the ovaries from producing ova.
The uterus doesn't suddenly shrivel and fall out.
Supply it with the hormones again, add a fertilized egg and it'll work.

Dead end most likely.
The Müllerian duct develops to form the uterus and the upper third of the vagina among others. It's derived from the mesodermal germ layer.
The bottom two third are formed from the external genital organs, which derive from the embryonic cloaca, which in turn derives from the ectodermal and entodermal germ layer.

Unless we know more about that woman's birth defect and which parts were affected and at what point during embryonic development, we can really tell more.

Strange... This'll improve science research though. Womb donors, anyone?

It's the uterus they're thinking of transplanting.

I would imagine the daughter is going to keep her own vagina, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.
Just take dear old mom's uterus.

As biologically 'active' as everything in the human reproductive system is, I would imagine there are huge transplant compatibility issues in there.  Or, perhaps, it goes the other way, and the female reproductive area is less sensitive to foreign tissues than the rest of the body?

[By biologically 'active', I meant as akin to how bacteria and viruses are active; get them anywhere near any other living system, and they are 'active', virulent, ... do stuff.  For example, leave unfertilized eggs in the uterus, and they tend to rapidly form cysts if they don't get washed out within a month or so. ]

Not a doctor.  Don't even play one on TV.  Not even in a bad SyFy drama.

I'm as much a doctor as Dr. Mario is one.

That's what I was thinking too.
I imagine that she'd need to take a lot of immunosuppressive medications, as I've never heard that a whole foreign organ has been accepted and not rejected without some.
And I wonder how an embryo can develop for 9 months on drugs.

That might be the case inside the uterus, with encapsulated eggs and other foreign bodies, but surely not the foreign uterus itself in another human.

Doesn't your school teach you where babies come from?

Where the heck does the vagina lead to without a womb?
Sure as hell isn't a leprechaun with a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Eggs from whatever they're called at the end of the Fallopian tubes. When you reach an old age your body stops releasing eggs or smth.

They're called ovaries.
And they're not at the end of the oviducts. There's actually a gap and an ovum is expelled into the peritoneum, where it is caught by their fringed ends.
That fact is the reason why abdominal pregnancies can occur.
