I don't understand why you'd stock up on those... You pay triple the price in electricity bills and they blow out constantly. I replaced all the bulbs in my apartment with CFLs and couldn't be happier. The warm up lag is like 1/8 of a second. BFD.

We're thinking of replacing at least some of the lights in our house with LEDs. Expensive as all hell but they last forever, amazingly bright and fuck, they're LEDs.

Cool, but I like them.  I also don't think the CFLs are as good as claimed either.

I haven't had a single one burn out in the three years I've lived here. And yeah, they do work as claimed since you get the same amount of light from a 20 watt CFL as you do from a 100 watt incandescent. I don't get it, is it your way of sticking it to the greenies? Fear of new technology? It's like sticking with a 56k modem when you have the option of getting high speed cable instead. To each his own... I just don't get it.

No, It has nothing to do with fear of new technology.  I don't think they're titties like you do (yes, I've tried them too).  Yet. I like my old bulbs and I have many that have lasted well over a year perhaps two maybe three.  If I want to pay a bit more to use another product, so be it.

'Fuck the greenies' is just a pleasant byproduct.

Then they're is this..

I dislike the energy efficient light bulbs because of the mercury inside them, what if one breaks accidently?

I dislike 'em because I've still not gotten used to the gap between current flowing and them actually turning on. Whenever I go in the basement, I hit the switch going down the stairs as always, but the light doesn't immediately come on so I start to turn back because I think I missed the switch. It drives one insane, it does.

Are you sure?

Clearly, I was referring to wishing I had a gun.

tungsten is scary nasty. i don't know why it doesn't get as bad rap as the other heavy metals but as far as carcinogens go, it's right up there.

And I thought depleted uranium could be used as a sundae topping.

Not sure if srs but the tungsten alloy that's the alternative is so much worse than DU it's ridiculous.

Niether is good, and they're both much worse than lead - which is itself toxic, carcinogenic etc.

Maybe we can move on from the 'Dood its OK, what do you think 'depleted' means? Derp' argument.

Same jokes he does on the Huckabee show. I didn't see anything too controversial this time or the other. I'm surprised they took him off after the jokes about the candidates.

Who was arguing that?

And lead is pretty harmless so long as you wear gloves and don't lick it amongst other basic precautions. Very inert stuff, doesn't really go anywhere. Can't say the same about DU, will burn on contact with air and release a rather (chemically) nasty dust-like form. Not much fun. Still, better than "100% fatal cancer rates in lab tests" tungsten.
