was going to say that the books didn't amuse me in that post, but didn't bother, and it comes back to bite me in the ass as Uzique makes assumptions.

I saying that it's elitism mainly because of the fuckin huge number of people who enjoyed them... surely they ALL are not inferior.
so is a music critic an elitist if he says miley cyrus is shit? just pointlessly snobbish?

just stop talking kid
he's criticising the work itself, not the people who enjoy it.

what you're doing is some weird reverse ad hominem attack where you argue that the people who enjoy a shitty piece of work are all shitty because they enjoy it.

one's tastes are not necessarily a reflection of one's mental capacity, that's why things such as guilty pleasures exist.

of course your tastes are a reflection of your mental state... that's what tastes are

guilty pleasure or not, it's a 'guilt' which infers that there's something wrong or defective about it

i.e. you're inferior

pleasure and guilt are not mutually exclusive.

you can enjoy something that is bad, simply because you appreciate how multifacetedly bad it is

so even those people are inferior?

hmmm, i could see this argument for a bad zombie movie(because who doesn't love watching the horribly cheesy special effects)...but I can't see actually appreciating a book based on how bad it is.

The books are easy, mindless and simple.  Not as easy, mindless and simple as Twilight...but whatev.  I read them all.  I don't think they are anything to brag about. I didn't hate them.  I have read worse.

idk how either, but some seem to enjoy them because of how bad they are...

not me, I thought the books were pointless and wank since I dislike magic in fiction in general. (inb4 Uzique calling me inferior because of that, that's an actual personal preference of mine, lol)

no...I think anyone that tries to say that they liked it because it was so bad is just trying not to look like the little dorks they are.  Who cares if anyone else thinks it is good?  If you enjoy reading it...then read it.

Honestly, if you found out someone refrained from reading something they actually enjoyed based on YOUR opinion and not their own would that make you think more of them? Or would it make you think they were a mindless follower?  So, either way you end up looking mindless to somebody...might as well enjoy yourself.

I can't speak for the people who said that, so I don't know the logic behind their statement.
