i'm using lowe pro slings right now. i've worn the zipper out on the 100, and the 200 just seems too big.

@ burns i have them both also!! i love the 100 series. . got the 200 a few months ago for bday so i can compare
200 is not that great for hiking but if you need moar stuff with you like a big azz lens and tripod it does the jobby.. when you sling aruond the 200 the zipper flap is big and it's not very easy to just grab a lens out of the lil section it's in. I can fit my camera into the top section of the 200, it's big.
the 100 is the sex. it is convenience. and small. quick draw!

When its in the front yes. You wouldnt leave ot there.. It slides quickly from back to front and from side to side. I'm all about quick access and I dont think there's a bag that is faster for getting to your equipment without taking the bag off.tazz. wrote:

Really I am just looking for minimalistic and comfort. All I need to put in my bag for hiking, biking, and maybe a few trips to Busch Gardens is a camera with battery grip lens & hood .. extra lens, and a few small accessories.

Wide angle is typically better for shuttle launches. I think the most interesting photos are the ones that capture the landscape as well. Plus there will be a massive crowd (nearly 1 million people). I would like to be able to quickly snag on-lookers gawking alsol.Wallpaper wrote:

This is pretty fucking cool. World maps of twitter and flickr usage. The guy behind it (Eric Fischer), has made a program that goes through tweets and flickr-pics with geotags and plots them onto the map. The results are beautiful and pretty interesting as well.
Red dots are flickr pictures, blue dots are tweets, white dots are both.
He's done them for individual cities as well, pretty fucking cool. They can all be found on his Flickr page.

This new job is paying me pretty well, and I'm considering grabbing a new lens for my camera (EOS 500D). I'll obviously be doing some research and looking into what I specifically want out of this, but if anyone has any tips on what can be especially improved from the standard lens kit then that'd be nice. I'm not looking at shelling out thousands here, just a nice little upgrade.
So basically, in the, I guess, lower-mid range of lenses (I haven't decided a price limit yet, but y'know, price:performance is vital for us students), what would typically be the most notable improvements from my standard lens? And are there any ones that stick out as clear choices for a beginner like moi?
As for what I want from it, there are a few things that stick out when it comes to what I miss from my current situation: a larger aperture, and more zoomz. Also better at shooting with High ISO's/better at drawing in light/whatever, but I guess that's a camera body/house thing?
