As soon as Israel is actively harboring the people who keep trying to kill us while also working against our efforts to kill them, I'm sure we'll do that.Dilbert_X wrote:

Besides, the $800M is only part of the aid to Pakistan.

Israel is not working in your interests, thats for sure.
Fuck Israel
They're not always working in their own interests, IMO. However, they aren't actively working against us...or more precisely, actively working with/for those who mean us harm. There is a distinct difference.Dilbert_X wrote:

They're working pretty closely with the Chinese.
Why is anyone suprised Pakistan was working for themselves?

Nobody is surprised by it. All countries work toward their own interests. It's when those interests conflict with one's own, and to what degree, that it becomes problematic.Dilbert_X wrote:

I'm giving up all hope if the House Republicans succeed in killing the James Webb Telescope. NASA's next big thing, designed to give us at least two decades of unprecedented knowledge. At this point, canceling it means billions of dollars will be thrown away, when the cost to complete it is far far less. How about they work on cutting the hundreds of billions spent in other countries via pointless aid and nation building?

That's the problem with slash-and-burn tactics in spending reductions. Many times, the good gets cut with the fat in the frenzy to cut waste.

Because it's knee jerk, and the majority of the voting public hasn't a clue. The returns and benefits actually require effort in educating oneself. That's never been a desire of the general public. Party loyalist develop their convictions because some talking head told them how to feel. That passion is rarely rooted in real knowledge.

General public has nothing to do with the specific programmatic decisions the House makes, tbh. Unless they start a massive write/call-in campaign on a particular issue...

As a matter of reality that is true. That is simply because such considerations are not occupying the mind of the voter come election season.

Science, particularly deep space astrophysics, is the sworn enemy of fundies. Republicans kowtow to fundies. And you're surprised?Kmar wrote:

Sounds like someone had a go at the US Embassy in Syria.
Forgive my utter ignorance, but I was surprised that the US still had an embassy in Syria. Or is it new?
