OK, I see one thing that is totally wrong too. The Anti Air Defense in the back of the Carrier is totally off. There the missile launcher in the middle and the two Phalanx Guns on each corner. Now that is not the essex that is in the game. That is all I have to say about that!!!

Does no one else think the design of the essex is stupid? The way that the missile launcher can hit the wall if its aimed at some angles?
And it looks like that in real life? Why on earth did they make it like that?
(theres probably some big obvious reason I'm not thinking about but can someone tell me it? )

That was off the coast of San Diego if I remember correctly. It was full of Recon Marines practicing shipboard assaults. All of the Marines died. It's not f'ing funny. No 1 Gooner wrote:

What's odd is the lack of arty attacks on real carriers...Perhaps because they don't stay stationary for that long...It should move slowly in small rectangle in BF2...
was this picture taken @ wake island ? ;x
Sorry ken but this is not the carrier from BF2 the carrier out of the game is a wasp class amphibious assault shipKEN-JENNINGS wrote:

+1 for effort though
The current USS ESSEX is not a true aircraft carrier it's a LHD2 (WASP). Depending on the mission of the Essex the kind of choppers change it might have theses on board it.
Aircraft: (depends upon mission)
6 AV-8B Harrier attack planes or 6 AV-8B Harrier attack planes
4 AH-1W Super Cobra attack helis 12 CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters
12 CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters 9 CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters
9 CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters
4 UH-1N Huey helicopters
Assault: or Sea Control:
42 CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters 20 AV-8B Harrier attack planes
6 ASW helicopters
The lenght of the Essex is only 840 feet. No modern day aircraft can take off or land on the deck of the Essex. Unless the have straight up lift engines. All current aircraft carriers have a flight deck if atleast 1080 feet plus. The USS Enterprise has the largest fight deck almost 1200 feet. The WW2 USS Essex aircraft carrier was sold from scrap in the early 70's. A jet using after burners may take off from the current USS Essex but it will not be able to land on it.
My father was a chief petty officer on the USS Intrepid from 1967 till 1974 when it was decommissioned.
He has said many a times the he's glad his ship was not sold to other countries or for scrap like most US Navy ships where. The Intrepid was a sister ship of the Essex.

he crashed because the boat had apparntly sped up as he was coming into land and he had miss judged the distence, + it was also because he was a new pilot
That site has to have the worst search function I've ever seen.
I can't find it. Huh?

Or because he simply fouled the gear, and instead of dropping the collective and pancaking it on the deck, he pulled collective and pivoted around the fouled gear, hence flipping over. Pretty much a bit of pilot error right there.david363 wrote:

OH of course......those guns are not that big.......... and it has two of them instead of one.....and I know that Anti-air missiles are very good at tracking and turning like a fighter plane sometimes......so they should be good at taking out pilots whores............=[4th]=SlayThem wrote:

It is the same Ship.......So.......Same design......different name..........same shipdavid363 wrote:

Yes, same same, but not really... many ships incorporate large design changes, especially over the lifespan of the class (hull no. 2 vs. hull no. 12). Younger ships of a same class tend to differ greatly than their older counterparts in many areas.PFCStenzel wrote:
