I realize that no one is interested in this ... well, except for tucker ... but what happened to the $1 can of furniture polish?   Now, even the generic stuff is costing $3, which isn't much below the $3.80 for Pledge.

Did some furniture polish conglomerate form when I wasn't looking?  Did Johnson Wax buy up all the competition?  Did the cost of crude oil affect the raw cost of furniture polish?  I just cannot figure out why furniture polish is so (*&(#$)#+ expensive.

(Yeah, I manage a household budget).

time to find a new drug.

do you have to use name brands? depending on what you want to do, you could use generics . . .

Hit a dollar store OH. You are definitely paying for an overpriced name brand.

i guess what i was thinking, instead of Murphy's oil for wood, just a linseed or castor (whatever the equivalent is).

are you looking for a single solution, or willing to use different products for different uses?

There's always Murphy's or some of the more expensive brands.

My concern is that the home supply companies are doing something odd with their product lines that I've not seen before ... I had always picked up generic $1 cans, but these are just not to be found any longer - at dollar stores, Target, Wal-mart, anywhere.

(By the way, a real "generic" solution is equal parts olive oil and lemon juice)

I dabble in lots of stuff simply because my incredible wealth allows for such a life.  Among other things, I own a cleaning company.

I was just going to suggest you make your own out of those very ingredients.

It's better in many ways.

grab a container of lemon juice and pour out about four tablespoons into a small spray bottle. Mix the lemon juice with three tablespoons water and two teaspoons olive oil. Put the sprayer in the bottle and shake well. You now have an excellent homemade furniture polish. Anytime you want to polish your furniture, you should make a new batch, as the olive oil may become rancid if you only polish your furniture once a month. When I use homemade furniture polish, I use a soft terry cloth instead of paper towel. The cloth just seems to give a better shine to the furniture.

But, yeah...it's strange that the prices have shot up like that.

Then your furniture smells like Greek salad.

I suppose I like the smell of greek salad better than pine trees...but it's all about preference.

It's better for the environment too.
If I wanted to smell a pine tree I would go hug one.
