From what I was studying on this, their best estimates are that they hit close to Mach 22. That speed was several minutes after it seperated from the booster, making this very interesting.
My wife asked me how fast Mach 22 was, and I told her it was getting close to 15,000 mph. She exclaimed "Oh wow... They have almost figured out how to break the speed of light!!!" We had to have a discussion about the difference in 15,000 miles per HOUR and 186,000 miles per SECOND...
