Hello,
Yesterday night (or this morning ) I played the last time BF2. Everything was allright and I turned off my computer. Today I started BF2, NOTHING changed on the computer, absulotely NOTHING, and I registered that when I want to join a server, it took very very long 'till the loading screen appears. I thought this was one of the usual BF2-Bugs which appear and disappear by time...

But as soon ad loading is completed and I join the server, I have no spawning screen. I just see the map and on the top it says that i should choose a spwan point (do not know the exactly sentence in english because I play the german version). When I press "Esc", nothing happens. So it is like BF2 freeze in some way, though I can see other players moving on the map und read (but not write) chat messages.

What I also notice is, when I press Alt+Tab I am very quick on the desktop and other programs start immediatly. Usually when I pressed Alt+Tab while playing BF2 it took some time untill I could even move the mouse on the Desktop. So it seems that BF2 stopped to use memory or stuff like that. Starting the game, untill the EA logo appears also tooks longer than yesterday.

I already have reinstalled BF2 and the 1.22 full patch in another directory, checked my RAM etc, but no it still does not work. All other games and programs work fine.

My hardware is a Toshiba Satellite A100-153 Notebook, 1GB RAM, 1,66GHz Centrino Core Duo, Windows XP SP2, Onboard Soundchip.
Again, it worked fine about 12 hours ago, now it stopped to work and nothing was changed on the system, even no downloads, just nothing.

Hope for help, ecuse m english (from Germany ),

I think all of us have experienced behavior like this from time to time ... I saw something similar to this about 3-4 weeks ago.  I don't know if it was a server, my internet connection, or a loading problem ... but it cleared up by itself.

Maybe just some patience?

But why does he connects to servers and just then I have no pawn screen and Battlefield 2 is like freezed. And why is already the loading from Desktop longer. Earlier it was like: dobleclick on BF2 Icon, HDD-Led starts blinking, EA-Splashscreen, EA-Logo, Intro (HDD -LED blinks all the time) etc.. Now it is like doubleclick on BF2-Icon, EA-Splashscreen, black monitor, HDD-Led does not blink, nothing happens for about 40 seconds, then just HDD-Led starts to blink a few times and EA-Logo, Intro etc. appears. So even the start procedure does not work properly.
My ping and my downloadrates are as usual. Firefox, Counterstrike and stuff also work fine.

Just thought of something ... has your video driver changed recently?  Perhaps you have an auto-updating feature on your video driver (that was downloaded, but not installed until your computer rebooted the following morning).  Some of the behaviors you describe could be caused by an updated, outdated, or corrupted video driver.

(I once had an outdated driver, and BF2 had all sorts of problems.)

Edit: You might go to "System Restore" and see if a restore point was set automatically by an updating program ... or by a System Checkpoint.

No, it is a ATI Radeon x1600 Mobility, no autoupdate is activated and I did not updated it myself.
I think I have the newest driver available for the mobility, but installed it some time ago. Did not change anthing on the system since yesterday, when everything worked fine.

Do you think i should reinstall the video-driver?

You could try, but I doubt that would do the job (I always see this being suggested, but it never seems to be the solution) ... I'm thinking some spyware or something else has gotten in your system and is interfering with BF2.  Again, look in System Restore and see if there is a System Checkpint in the last few days ... assuming you haven't installed anything, revert your system back and see if this helps.

The last restore point is from the 9th May when I installed C&C Generals. But BF2 worked properly untill yesterday, so I doubt C&C Generals is the error...
I'm confused, just want to play BF2...

Edit:
Ok, now scanning my system for spyware and stuff...

I'm sorry ... what I meant to say was there may have been other software and software updates installed  in the background without your knowledge ... I know, for example, Windows XP had an update in the last few weeks, and virus software is always installing things.

You could go all the way back to May 9 (ugh) to restore ... maybe temporarily disable your virus software and see if this is the cause?

Ok, I'll try some things before restoring fo May 9, like checking system for malware and deativate m Antivirus and so on.

Ok, done the following things and it still does not work...
I'm kinda desperate...

Scanned the System for malware (Hijackthis, Spybot, AdAware, Antivir, Trendmicro Housecall) and did not find anything.
Deactivated every not directly needed process before starting BF2 (incl. Antivirus etc.).
Restored the system with the restore point from May 9.
Reinstalled BF2.
Reinstalled Display Drivers.
Reinstalled DirectX.
Reinstalled Sond Drivers.

Do not know what to do else....

Well, as far as your computer, I have no further suggestions,  and I'm sorry that you've gone through all this with no results

I can only hope that it is a temporary condition with your Internet Access Provider (did you check your connection speed to see if it is too low?)

The speed is allright, tested it with speedmeter.nl (I'm living in the Netherlands right now). The downloadspeed, the ping, the maximum connections and the upload speed are well. Also asked my neighbours if something with they're internet is wrong, but they also have no problems. I'm writing now a mail to EA, though I doubt they will help cause their support is sucks...

Thanks for your help.
Maybe some others have other ideas....

Have you tried system restore?

If you don't know how to do it this is how it's done

1. click start
2. go all programs
3. go to Accessories
4. go to system tools
5. go to system restore > restore my computer to earlier time.

Change the date when you know it definitely worked for you, if it worked 3 days a go, change it to 1 week a go, and so on.

Let me know how you get on

Peace Boris

If you read above, Boris, you will note that this was one of his diagnostic steps.

What graphics card you have ? if it's Radion then that might be reason ( depending on the Version )

also is there any firewalls running ?

also try this before you go in 2 BF2

Click start > Run> type in > msconfig > go start up > click disable all> click apply or ok, it will ask you to restart PC do it, when your windows load up, pop up will come up telling you about the changes, tick the box click ok. Start BF2 see if the problem is still there.

Let me know how you get on

Blindside, I saw in another thread via a Google search on forumplanet where a person was experiencing some video problems at the spawn screen.

Interestingly, I think as part of the reinstallation process, one person wrote:
I had the same problem and deleting the 'Battlefield2' folder from 'My Documents' seemed to fix it.
I find this interesting, because I'm thinking that a reinstall of software does not delete your personal configuration files (at least, I believe it didn't when I reinstalled).  But, if you delete this folder then every personal configuration file would also have to be redone.  So, bottom line is that I am wondering if one of your config files has become corrupted (and this file would not be changed during a reinstall).

Softwarefirewall is deactivated.
Trie with msconfig and so on, did not help, same problem as it was.

When I deinstalled the game it asked if profiles and configuration should be deleted and I pressed "Yes". But I'll try to delete the folder menually. I could live with making a new config instead of not being able to play BF2...

ATI Radon ? ( that would explain ) new patch has changed likings of graphics card so now you need something dissent, or you will get what you getting or you will get black screen ingame when firing or doing other things.

Run Bf2 as a low priority program. If that won't work, try a high priority. I had the same, with the no map when u were able to spawn.

U can set prioities trough taskmanager or with a BATCH file.
