Why yould the ATI card could be a problem? It worked well for 6 weeks now?!
ATI Radon ? ( that would explain ) new patch has changed likings of graphics card so now you need something dissent, or you will get what you getting or you will get black screen ingame when firing or doing other things.

Peace Boris
Yes, the exactly name is "Mobility™ Radeon® X1600", so it is a Radeon. But why did it work for 6 weeks now and the problems suddenly started this morging? I have a notebook, so I can not easily change the graphics card. Is there any other solution and is it surely the graphis card?

Run Bf2 as a low priority program. If that won't work, try a high priority. I had the same, with the no map when u were able to spawn.

U can set prioities trough taskmanager or with a BATCH file.
Will try that.

Ok, noticed another thing:
After installing other video drivers I am able to connect to a server for exactly one time. For example i install video drivers, start BF2 connect to a server and everything is fine. As soon as I disconnect I am not able to connect to a server again, not because of the spawning screen, because after clicking on "Join Game" BF2 freezes for maybe 5 minutes and then the message "Connection refused" (or something similar) appears. If I deinstall and reinstall the drivers I am able to play again for exactly one time...

Blindside, have you tried a punkbuster update (they are well known for causing problems like this).  Take a look at this thread from the EAGames Forums ... does that screen shot look similar to what you are experiencing.

The one guy on this thread is convinced it is caused by Punkbuster ... I actually saw another thread that blamed Punkbuster for something similar, though not exactly, like your issue.  If so, perhaps follow his advice:

The best solution is to go to www.punkbuster.com , then go to bf2 , then go to update . There, download a file called PBWEB.EXE and copy the file to your PB home directory (usually c:\program files\ea games\battlefield 2\pb) . then double click on the file to execute it . it will update your punkbuster . If it didnt work out, try a server without punkbuster to see if you can spawn or not.
(I'm shooting in the dark here ... )

That is EXACTLY a screenshot of what I see IF I am able to connect to a server (and not the error "Connection refused" appears). So I downloaded the pbsetup.exe, put it into the homdir and executed it. It says it has to update punkbuster but then:
Downloading a global config file failed for the following reason: couldn't connet to host
Firewall is deactivated...
Grrrrrr, still thank you for your help, mabe it will work tomorrow, I will report...

Think I'll begin to scream soon, need to listen to some aggressive music...

EDIT:
I tried to connect on a server without Punkbuster and still have the same problem though the guy in the thread says that on servers without Punkbuster the problem shuld not be.

Confused, think I'll go to bed...

It might be a coincidence, but i have played a lot last week on a second account here in the Netherlands, no problems there.

Today i suddenly have the "there is a problem with your connection"or "you have lost the connection" > and im back to Multiplay-menu.
I get  these messages every 2 minutes (!) on different of my favorite servers :  1 in NL, one in UK, 1 in Sweden. Makes the game totally unplayable.

I think we are having an ISP, router or HUB-server problem in the Netherlands  (or somewhere on the line to to main BF2 server) at the moment.
Might have  absolutely  NOTHING to do with your PC or configuration !
Better wait a day or 2 , before you bother about  the reinstalling all software.
And do NOT play with firewalls disabled if that firewall did not gave you any troubles before; that might only make things worse.

Ive seen this kind of  messages/troubles before,  just when last patch was realeased/installed a month ago, and the connection was normal after a few days, while i did not (re)install any other software,  or updated any punkbuster files.
