I got BF2, installed and then installed the patch (1.22). When I installed the patch I got the message "patching failed" a few times. I just kept re-running the patch exe and eventually installed the patch "successfully". However, when I tried to join servers, the game crashed to the desktop while I was connecting. It usually reached 62% "Loading objects" or something.

I reinstalled BF2 and now I cannot even install the patch anymore. Re-running the exe does not work like it had before. Also, when I try to open BF2 it just immediately crashes to desktop.

Could someone please PLEASE help me out here? I spent hours trying to get BF2 running.

I had the same problem, I tried deleteing BF2 but that just created more problems because it thought it was still there, even after purging thru regedit. I had to turn back time on my computer & deleted{this time thru add remove programs} & reinstall.

Another thing that could be wrong is I was loaded with spyware at the time.

One thing is after you install special forces you have to reapply the patch for some reason.

Keep trying, its frustrating but you'll get it.

This is where the patch is failing every time.

What should I do?

how long are you waiting? it stalled on me for about 10 minutes at a point (dont remember where) before finally installing...go have a drink and come back and see if it worked. it shoudl go really fast after that.

if not, reinstall everything, redownload patch files (full 1.22), and wait, again. hopefully you wont have to do that tho...

UPDATE

I have no idea how but after countless attempts to install the patch, I tried once more and it worked flawlessly. No "patching failed" messages or anything.

Now I am getting this error message when trying to load maps.

Anyone got an idea? This is so frustrating.

Edit: I am following badhq's instructions in this thread, http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=19564
I managed to put the missing files in the objects_client.zip but I am still getting the same error. There is no PATH for the files I put in when I open objects_client.zip. Should there be a path and how can I change the path?

I'm now having the same problems with mine after a complete re-build of the components   After 5 weeks of not having my PC for battlefield, I just said fuck it, and dropped it off at the local PC guru.  Pisses me off to no end man.  Planned on a 3 day Battlefield binge over the Mem-day weekend.

Well, after 15 plus BF installs, uninstalls and over 4 hours of trouble shooting the install of the damn patch, I've pretty much thrown in the towel.  We tried my CD-Rom discs, his DVD disc, and everthing inbetween.  I spent damn near 800.00 worth of new hardware for the PC, and I'm getting irritated to say the least.  Right now, it's best if the system isn't even around my vicininty.  One more day of the bs would have lead to the inevidable intersection between the tower and 6 20rd clips of tracers from my AR-15, lol.  Best to let the professionals take care of it, lol.
