1) If I run BF2 on Low settings I can pretty much play for 20+ minutes then Crash (screen freezes, I restart)

2) If I run on Medium settings I can play for 2/6 minutes then crash (screen freezes, I restart)

2) If I run on High settings I can get to the loading screen then bang (screen freezes, I restart)

My specs are:
AMD 64 3000
Gigabyte K8NSNXP nForce3 250
Connect3D x800 XT PE
G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB)

please can anyone shine some light on my darkness....life with no BF2, I dont even want to think about it...

First off :

1)What kind of power supply do you have?...Size?

2)What Case do you have? make and model

3)How many fans in the case do you have? Not counting the one on the power supply and the one on the Cpu.

4)If you remove the side on the PC how long until it freezes?

Reply to these and I will try and help...

Try cooling both your cpu and your vid card.  Heat pipe tech is what my husband uses and he has no probs.  I use chilled water cooling and no probs.  But then could just be a prob with your card.  Someone else may have a better solution.

Just a few thoughts:
1. Try shutting down unnessesary tasks in the Windows task manager (Ctrl Alt Del) before starting up BF2
2. Change your resolution from High settings to Medium, Anti-aliasing off
3. try 60 Hz or 75 Hz refresh rate in your in-game resolution settings, this has to do with the kind of monitor you use , check what refresh rate your monitor settings are; have  monitor and game BOTH at the same refresh rate ( i use 60 Hz for both)
4. disable live-update options in things like virusscanners or anti-spyware when playing BF2, but do not disable your firewall.
5. it might also be a Video-card problem , video-driver issue
6.  http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_2.html

Are you Overclocking the video card?

(This may sound stupid) is the fan in the front sucking in and is the one in the back blowing out if so the BTX case  that you are using is a awesome case and you should not have to keep the sides off....matter of fact you have engineers from lian-li that have put a lot of time in on making a kickass case that was designed with sides on! So if you are not overclocking your card and not running any software that mods the video bios ....try running a different card with the sides on and see what happens.

Err...G.Skill RAM? Never heard of it...

On top of the other advice, try MemTest86.

Google, follow instructions on site.

EDIT: If it's just freezing, it could be ram or CPU overheating.

If your videocard is overheating, like mine used to, it will go into a checkerboard pattern then crash the computer entirely.

This was my next suggestion and I think it's G.skil memory. The extreme version is very good on par with corsair  also is the G.skil dual channel? Run the MEMtest86 for atleast 8-10 hrs if you see any errors the memory is the problem....but thats not saying this will correct your issue. You might have serveral problems.

+1 Defiance ...Good advice

I would say it's probably the processor overheating. If you are running without the side on, your heatsink is probably gunked up with all kinds of crud. Try cleaning the heatsink or clean off the old thermal grease and apply new (Arctic Silver) or just get a new heatsink/fan. If you have a chipset cooler, make sure the fan is going. It could be that your chipset is overheating. I don't know. If it's not the memory or the processor, you may have a bad driver. If worse comes to worst, then try a fresh load of Windows. More than likely, something is overheating. You just need to find what it is.

Also, running with the side of the case off can be bad. The reason you have two fans in the front, one in the back and one or two in the power supply is because it makes air move over all of your components. With the side off, you lose this moving air and wind up with stagnant spots in the case. Get SpeedFan and log your temperatures. If your motherboard has the appropriate sensors, you should get some good data.

Hi..

I had a similar issue on my previous machine. It turned out to be a conflict with the motherboard and RAM.

I have the same problem

First I got blackscreen so I bought a new powersupply cauz I thought my 300W wasnt enough
With 500W still the same problem, then I found out my x1600pro fan never really did the job right so I got some new drivers and set fanspeed much higher.

No more overheating videocard problems

BUT my screen still freezes on occasion... due to CPU overheating i guess

i had a similar problem when i built my new computer. i would be playing bf2 for about 30 mins then the computer would either restart its self or the screen would freeze.

i had replaced the motherboard because of a faulty one when i originally built my computer and it turned out that the thermal compound between the cpu and heatsink was not working that well, so i cleaned off all the old compound and replaced it with some silver thermal grease. everything works great now without any problems.

For now Ive moved my RAM and Graphics Card over to my older PC and its running fine, Ive lost a bit of power but not much, Im still pissed at not getting to the bottom of it.

Ive ordered a new Fan for my x800 and I will get some more Compound and re-do the CPU...Im convinced it has to be the Mobo or the CPU as Im on a different pc with my x800 and BF2 is running fine.

After reading an article on TotalBF2 I uninstalled my ATI drivers and installed the 5.6 cat then installed BF2 and ran it, on medium 1024x768 for 30+mins with no problems..

Im just downloading and installing the individual patches to get me back up to date...will see what happens.

G.Skill makes awesome RAM. They have 2GB Dual-channel DDR500 for 180$, and it can be overclocked to around 270 - 280MHz stable. Good stuff.
