Perspective;

In a previous job (Brigade Fire Direction Control), my "trigger pull" was 2oz.
(Control+Action+Enter keys on a keyboard, to send a fire mission to up to 72 mixed M109 self-propelled howitzers & tracked MLRS rocket/missile units.)

A "negligent discharge" on that keyboard is positively NOT an option.

went to a gunshow today and almost came home with a 1941 Lithgow SMLE.  it was only $225 and it was in great condition but the bolt and receiver #s didn't match.  oh well, i'd rather waste money on a ruger single action or sig 522.

if i ever end up like one of these old fucks sitting behind a table of overpriced winchester 94s someone please cut my head off.

There's no point in getting involved in the arse end of 'collectables'. When the bottom drops out of a market the bottom is the first bit to drop.
If its not perfect condition and everything matching don't bother.

Then again, I don't own anything for the sake of collecting, if I don't use it its sold or thrown out.

i'm not really interested in owning a gun i couldn't or wouldn't want to shoot.  I passed on the Lithgow because i have an ingrained dislike of guns with mismatched critical parts.  it's always easier to sell a matching gun.  not that i ever sell anything i like enough to buy.

it's amazing how many overpriced generic hunting rifles with crappy scopes they can fit into one convention hall.  so many pencil barreled model 70s chambered in 300 savage with foggy tasco scopes- it's hard to buy just one.  and who isn't shopping for a rusty old 16ga. double barrel? there are racks and racks of 'em.  why do the vendors even drag this shit out?  and then they sit there looking pissed because people aren't fist fighting each other for first crack at that stevens single barrel popgun- the nice one with the cracked stock and rubbed through bluing.

Isn't there some book published annually which lists the 'value' of old guns?
I guess people get suckered into believing they're buying something which will appreciate in value somehow, like Franklin Mint garbage. Deceased estate auctions are full of crates of that rubbish.

I like my money
- In something I can use, my budget for guns and tools is not limited
- In an investment - term deposits have been pretty good
- Tucked into a strippers g-string

It's so bad around here, I hardly bother to shop in the local gunstores.
Everything is ordered through Brownells, Graf & Sons, or Midway.

'Normal brass?  Of course we gots normal brass! Are ya slow or sumptin'?!'
.. No, NORMA. Swedish.  Like Nobel Prize
'Oh, ya mean like that thar Prize they gave Al Gore an that Barack Osama? No, we ain't got no Cal-ee-fornia kinna stuffs here'

'300 Winchester Short Magnum? Ah think yer confused.  You muss mean that .308.  See, issa 30 caliber, but shorter thanna 300 Winchester Magunumum'
... No, same length as a 7.62x51 (or .308), but fatter.  Has the ballistics.... nevermind.

'Le' Pew-ah? No, we ain't got none o' that French crap!'
.. No, Lapua.  Finland.

Like Larry the Cable Guy running a gun store, with Henry Ford as the purchasing manager.
Pistols?  Anything you like, as long as it's a 1911 clone .45 auto, a Glock 9mm, or a .357 magnum revolver
Rifles? Wide selection of .270 to 30-06 to 300 (win) mag.  With a choice of crappy plastic or crappy wood stocks!
Hell, we even got that them thar

it's about half and half around here.  some are conventionally chambered; .270, 30-06, even 25-06 and 35 whelen.  then there are the wildcats.  I'm supposed to wet myself because Gomer is selling a whole pile of hunting rifles chambered in 270-06, 243 ackley improved and god knows how many fucking weatherby calibers?  And apparently you can't truely appreciate the winchester 94 until you own three chambered in .32-20.

oh well, gunshows are still fun.  Where else can I be tempted by an HK Mark 23 and those beautiful reproduction Sharps rifles?

No, you don't.
Keyboard was noisy, bulky, and has horrible ergonomics.

Computer was a lunchbox 486, SCSI drives, and 10 years out of date when we got them.
Replacement cost for a SCSI cable was $3000.
Whole system was around $25,000.
Stack of manuals for the system was 7 feet tall, letter sized pages.

Actual system was 124KB, including the Unix OS and fit on one 128KB floppy.
So, printed out in hex, the system would've been about 75 pages.
For some reason, the installation procedure was 20 floppys for the OS, then another 10-20 for the program - but a binary dump of the entire OS+system was 1 floppy...

they don't stock guns in .357 SIG? weird, thought that was pretty popular.

yes, lol

might as well have said 10mm auto...

.40 S&W is way more popular than 10mm and .357 SIG

threads where someone asks if anyone owns an AK47 usually go like this.
"But I found one for sale online"
"That's not a AK47"
"Really? It looks like one and says AK47"
"But it's not a AK47"
"O really so what is it than ?"
"It's a WASR"

The "does anyone own a UMP" question reminded me of that.

unless you're LE or PMC.

Then your company/department would own the gun but not you, iirc. Might not be that case for some LE, idk.

I shot a full auto UMP in Florida, owned by a gun range.

First two or three shots were sort of controlled, the rest not.
