Taking down helicopters

so today I took down an attack heli with a pistol and a shotgun!
What I've noticed is that people rarely shoot at attack helis with basic weapons even if the chopper if smoking, but often you get easy kills, couse I think if the chopper is going to blow anyway and you're the last one to hit it even with a pistol you get the kills. I think that if say 5 players were shooting at an attack heli with rifles it would inflict enough damage to atleast scare the heli away... or what do you think?

The only time I shoot at the "healthy" heli is with a PKM....if it is smoking pretty good, I will shoot it with anything I have.

I do that alot. Got 2 kills for shooting a HIND that was on fire. I just took a few shots at it with the F2000 and boom, free kills.

4 cockpit hits with a M95 are half of the energy of an attack chopper.

Smokin' or not, I shoot at them just to piss them off, lmao. I do agree that there should be more tactical use of ground troops firing on choppers. A group of 4 can effectively clear out one of them by either bringing it down, or forcing it to return to base. Lock and load people, and bring those damn whirly birds down.

Yeh i've taken down heli's with all sorts of things even when they weren't smoking, rifles, pistols, nades etc.

If your running through a big map, I advise you just to take a few pops at a heli especially if its smoking

In the demo I 'killed' a jet with my pistol. I was waiting for the MiG to spawn, when suddenly an F35 in flames was about to crash straight into me. I had my pistol out at the time and fired straight at the cockpit. The kill was mine :p

the best infantry weapon to shoot it with (besides the rocket launcher) is either pkm or m95.

but if you have a whole squad of troops shooting at it, u will most likely scare it off, or maybe even destroy it.

Small arms fire does very little damage to a chopper.
I agree that if you see a chopper on fire [smoking is not enough] then shoot it. There is nothing more satisfying than getting 5 kills for a blackhawk downed with your pistol.

FYI. it take 350 shots [approx] from a PKM to get an attack chopper from 100% to on fire.

Really? Interesting. I wonder if it took one hit from an anti-tank round, how many shots it would take then.

Yea there is always idiots shooting at full armor chopper with light weapons. it doesn't scare me off, i just flip around and launch ruckets up their a..... kill them

Give me a few mins and I'll let you know!

EDIT: One AT round deals around 55% damage [hitting the main body from the side]. Another 150 PKM rounds will put it on fire.

I shoot at choppers like that all the time, any vehicle that is on fire or is smoking and is prone to death within 10 seconds i shoot at, and 60% of the time i get the kills. I saw a burning FAAV and i shot it with my MG and got three kills, two guys bailed out and got killed by the explosion. : D

I love when some one shoots the chopper I am in with the PKM. Especially when I see the tracers and follow them to where he is on a hill all alone. Keep it up guys, easy kills for me.

They nerfed the range of the PKM after making it godlike but I have a video of me wounding an f15 on kubra damn just sitting on its airfield shooting at it as it flew by for repairs... I got it to start smoking after pass 10 lol.
