so far i have;

castle, skyscraper, replica of my house (sort of) and a wooden house avec farm. im using flatmap as the basis and making a natural looking harbour is proving difficult so anything aquatic is out

whats the attraction of the survival server btw? surely once youve done the whole 'from scratch, kill some creepers and end up in a obsidian castle' you've essentially 'done' MC. now i just want to no-hassle build shit

I've only been playing on the MP server for about a week now. Still building my tower but when I get bored of building it's kind of cool to run around and check out what everyone else has been building. Build and mine together and what not. Will I'll still play a lot after my tower is completed? Maybe, maybe not.

I've started a survival for my close RL mates...

...we used a seed we found online that basially has 95% water (literally) ~ and has heaps of small islands.

We started at a spawn island. It had a single tree, a bit of grass.

We cut down the tree, started getting some wheat going, luckily a spider spawn which we aall gang bashed and got the string...

...we made a fishing rod, and huddled in a dirt complex.

we built up from there, creating a pretty massive wheat area, and eventually a dock, thicker building, and boats. We started to explore, and basically we all went to a different island, claiming our own islands.

We then decided to all make huge tunnel networks underground, and have a central station that meets under the spawn.

The attraction is that you're suffering along with everyone else.

But really, since it's not a "creative" server, there's actually a point to building things like tunnels to bedrock, honeycomb mines, farms, mob traps and so on. You just end up with so much cobblestone that you can actually build things for cosmetic reason (and have others playing in the world to appreciate it). No chance am I going to build something as resource heavy as the quidditch stadium, but I've got plenty of stone stuff and lumber.

Simplest solution ever. Build yourself a tree farm. Build one for each kind of tree if you want. That'll give you like five materials to build with right there, and enough fuel to cook cobble into smoothstone, and enough smoothstone to make as much "cinder blocks" as you want. Add to that half slabs, and hell, that's variety enough. Use gravel if you'd rather have a rough-textured wall.
