As more and more "modern" games are being released with more futuristic themes, the likelihood of horses featuring in larger roles and being included to have a direct and influential way in an FPS style of game like BF2 or BF2142 is becoming less and less likely.
Sure games of all genres will still include horses (or a horse element if you will) but over time they will on the large part end up only making references to horses when trying to make up scenery or being used for the establishment of a mood that the developers are trying to create in the players mind. Nobody is denying that there will always be the need for horses in modern society but they certainly don't have the impact that they once used to have on our daily lives, and the obvious reason for this can largely be attributed to advances in technology such as vehicles being used as a more efficient method of transport. So keeping these points in mind one couldn't be blamed for drawing a parallel between the diminishing role the horse is playing in our everyday lives and the almost obvious fact that FPS developers have also been opting to use robots or even humans in place of horses even in roles where a horse is clearly a much more obvious choice (whether it be piloting small attack aircraft or medium tranport type roles). So when it's explained as clearly as that, it's hard not to agree really but I'm curious to hear other peoples thoughts on this topic.
