Also it throws rediculous scenarios at you that a person with any semblance of common sense wouldn't get themselves into.
What a retarded game. What waiter makes $8 an hour? That's like two customers an hour during lunch.

Oregon does not allow tips to be credited towards the minimum however, and so tipped jobs are otherwise subject to the full state hourly minimum (currently $8.50)Jay wrote:

What? And who cares? I don't live in Oregon. I never made less than $20/hr waiting tables. I made even more as a bartender. And lol at the $250 insurance premium. The premium where I worked was $30 a month but you had to be a full time employee to qualify (which meant working some shitty shifts like weekday lunch).AussieReaper wrote:

"$8 is about the minimum wage in Oregon. And they don't allow tips."

Great argument you got going there mate.

Debate!

And your argument is that one state out of fifty is bad to be a waiter in. Fantastic. You got me.AussieReaper wrote:

Also:
Tips are allowed, employers are just required to pay the servers $8.50 an hour instead of the usual $2.50. It's actually better to be a waiter in Oregon than anywhere else. Did it on the first try. It wasn't that hard, although I had to make my kid keep eating free lunches despite being teased. Also missed his play, but I missed a concert to make up for it (sacrifices and whatnot). Hell I even chipped $20 in to a rainy day fund for a sick coworker, figure karma works its way back.
Moral of this game? Don't have kids.

The minimum wage set at the federal level is $7.25 /hr , so I can't see how you think this game is retarded by setting $9 /hr minimum.
Of course, I was never a waiter like you, so of course you making $20 per hour must be the real standard we should go by...

And don't have a car or have your grandfather die in the same month. Stupid game is stupid. The author has never been poor and is exploiting stupid people.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

made $10/hr with great bennies (didn't need them though) as a cashier at whole foods
e: it annoyed me that my only options for kicking that stupid freeloader out of my apartment were either telling the landlord or not doing anything. i would've taken a tire iron to that cheap president

It set the wage for a server at $8/hr. This included the minimum of $2.25, meaning the server was making $5.75 in tips/hr. This is completely unrealistic unless we're talking about a slow ass restaurant in the middle of bumfuck Nebraska that sees 10 customers a day.AussieReaper wrote:

I made $20/hr in tips on top of whatever minimum wage I made. I never saw that paycheck because the vast majority of it went to taxes. So I, like almost every waiter in this country, lived on tips alone. I'm sorry that this is such a difficult concept for you to grasp.

How hard a concept is it to grasp that if there is a minimum wage, that is what some people will make?

Then try to make the stupid game at least someone accurate. How about "Walmart Greeter" or "McDonald's Burger Flipper"? Oh, but those aren't respectable jobs while the three listed are at least somewhat respectable and people might feel their heart strings tugged. It figures that you would fall for a purely emotional argument. It's what you do.AussieReaper wrote:

The minimum wage is set. There are people who will have to survive on that minimum wage.
Totally an emotion argument, that one.

I'm supposed to feel sorry for high school dropouts? And do what? Offer them a larger chunk of my paycheck?AussieReaper wrote:

Doubt everyone on min wage is a highschool dropout. But hey, I'm sure there are plenty of jobs out there it's just the lazy who can't find one, right?Jay wrote:

Yes. I see help wanted signs every day. People are refusing to take a pay cut from what they made pre-crash even though their old jobs are gone. They have the option to work, they just choose not to.AussieReaper wrote:

Wtf would you know anyway? You live on the other side of the planet. Deal with your own issues and stop being such a ball hanger.
