are you asking how stable it is?

Noob question for the brilliant minds at the BF2s overclocking labs...

At idle, overclocked, my i7 950 runs in the upper 40s (at stock speeds, still in the low to mid-40s).  Ambient temp is usually ~21 C.  During stress testing it maxes out around 66C @ 3.8ghz, and at about 72C @ 4.1 ghz.  I want to run at 4.1, but that temperature is essentially right at the recommended maximum for these processors.

It's cooled via a Noctua cooler with 120mm fans in push-pull, and there are 4 120mm fans for the case, keeping the airflow in an up and outward direction.  Re-applying thermal paste, and changing from Arctic Silver to Noctua's own compound, all had slightly varied effects, but still in the basic ranges listed above.  A ~20C increase under load would seem to me that the cooler itself is doing its job, but is simply in too warm of an environment to keep temps lower than that...

The system itself appears completely solid - it passes through prime95 overnight and doesn't crash randomly during normal use.  This is primarily a gaming machine...if it seems stable, I'm inclined to just be happy with it as is, but at the same time I don't want to screw up any hardware.

Should I be concerned at all?

Should I just go buy a bigger case and slap a bunch of 140mms on it?

I think you will be ok, but again, if you can cool it down even more...do it

Yeah your fine,  cooler is always better but if it stays below 80c under stress testing you'll be fine as you won't see temps that high during normal usage.

Will i see any performance improvement going from i5 2500k @ 4.8ghz daily to i7 2700k @ 5.* ghz daily?

I mean, ofcourse it will perform better but is it worth the £150 ish it will cost to upgrade?

BF3
GTA5 when its out
Photoshop CS5 (though i  believe it does most of its work on my 580gtx?)

Thanks

Oh and is anyone running a Corsair H100?

Having a carbide case I have the mounting holes for this cooler, everything in the case is wiretucked so the only restriction is the huge noctua cooler, im thinking an H100 will be much more neat and tidy? I plan to upgrade to a Corsair obsidian at some point.

Im using an H80.  i5 2500k @ 4.0 idle at 24 never goes above 45c on load.

Question, before I start to OC my system I want to see if my stock temps are normal. i5-2500k with a 212+ hsf idles around 40C and running prime95 hits at 58C. Ambient room temp is roughly 28C. So are these temps normal and acceptable, or should I look at remounting the hsf?

12C above amb temp...sounds ok. i would stay under 70 C load temp.
