this has nothing to do with GFx problems, try running it from the exe in program files. Or use the task manager to see if its running in processes

What happens when you put BF2 disk in ? dos it ask you to auto start BF2? also try goin to

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

And see if u can click icon there, and run game from it. Let me know how you get on.

I've had this happen to me a few times.  I had to delete my user profile in My Documents to get it to run again.  No biggie, I just copied my control.con and pics over to my new profile so I didn't have to re-configure my controls.  Yeah.. dont ask why, BF2 is just that wierd.

My Documents > Battlefield 2 > Profiles > delete all the "000x" (x = 1 - whatever other numbers are there are) folders.

mmmm....you may have changed the directory of the shortcut...right click on shortcut and take note of the target directory then go into bf2 folder and find the .EXE.....take not of that directory also(if they match then you should be able to run it) if not then jus try sending the .EXE from the folder to the desktop again by creating shortcut.

It's not a big deal really to delete it.  It just sucks cuz you gotta reconfigure all of your settings in BF2 again and retrieve your account when you log on the next time.  But that only takes like 3-4 mins to do,

As he said if you copy the files that wer used as the config files then you wont have to re-configure.

Like I sead I never herd of that bro, so i can't really comment on that as I don't know if it works or not, I only comment on what I know. ( I didn't say he shouldn't try I sead I personally would not suggest anyone deleting their BF2 profile )

IMO deleting the BF2 profile from your pc shouldnt really matter since it is saved on the EA server(i think)but if you do do it i would get ready for a fresh install just incase!

The user profile on your PC and the your account profile on EAs servers are two different things.  The one on your PC is there to remember your game settings such as controls, audio settings, graphics settings and overall game settings.  Your account profile on EA servers is where all of your actual username profile and stats are saved at, not on your PC.

So, like I said before; all you have to do when you delete your user profile on your PC is reconfigure all your game settings afterwards and retrieve your account for your new user profile on your PC.

- Do NOT re-install until you've at least tried this... it's MUCH easier and quicker (and most likely the solution).

thanks for the suggestions guys!!!

but here is the weird thing; i tried uninstalling it (you know by going to add/remove programs in control panel) and windows comes up with this error message followed by some numbers in brackets.  basically, i can't even uninstall the game!

i tried creating the shortcut and target directory but it still won't run....i press ctrl-alt-del to see the tasks running in background and nothing comes up when i double-click the icon.  bf2 is definitly installed.  inserting the disk starts the autorun and i click start bf2 and it won't launch....the hourglass comes out for like half a second, then everything is back to 'normal' as if nothing has happened.

this is really bugging me....and i'm really confused as to what causes this....how odd!!!!!!??

Have you tried this yet??  Even if you uninstall bf2 your profiles can stay there so you dont lose it re-installing.  Try it!

ok i will give that a try....fingers crossed

i'm also having the same problem with rome total war and i deleted the whole folder from program files....guess what...its still in the programs list in add/remove programs....and when i insert the total war disk in, it doesn't give me the option to install the game, instead the only option is to play the game....i think the same thing will happen to bf2.
