This movement is over, it ended when the cops came and they folded like beach chairs. Now it's about revenge for them as some of them stated they want to burn NY to the ground and the latest news from their camp is they want to put together a list of demands. Sorry but they're not getting my money, if they majored in poetry or womens studies then it's their own damn fault they can't live comfortably. This whole movement will be remembered for drumming and raping and nothing more.
What is the correct response to being sprayed with pepper spray and tear gas? It isn't like you can fight back against police, that is a surefire way to lose all support/get even more hurt while doing something that should involve no violence.
maybe they should have left when asked since they were breaking the rules and were warned? thats the proper fucking reaction.

Democratic protest doesn't get very far when you leave when asked. The whole point is to actually get noticed by the general public and get some kind of message across. It is unfortunate that there is no clear message to be communicated, most people (ie the people who need to be convinced) have no idea what this protest is about and predictably jump to conclusions like hippies/welfare/majoring in womens studies to "other" the protesters so that actions from authorities can be justified. Like that venn diagram Dilbert posted above - it has nothing of substance, just the typical political buzzwords that are used for every situation right-wing voters disagree with.
you dont have to leave if you do it properly. you cant camp....campus rules. unless they were protesting the camping rule.....

And that right there sums it up. Most of these people don't know why they are out there protesting except it has to do with some vague notion of toppling authority. That's it. They don't understand Marxism so they aren't out there in support of that. They really don't understand capitalism, so it's not really a protest against capitalism. Since everything else is eliminated, the common thread holding these protests together is a distrust for, and anger towards, authority. Guess what the cops represent? Yeah. I thought there message was fairly clear, they're against "corporate greed" and the government nurturing of such greed. It's not a bad reason to protest but their lack of organization and clearly defined message killed the movement before it began. It quickly turned into people down on their luck, either due to their own ineptness (i.e. womans studies) or the economy, lining up for a handout.
my favorite part was when they started rationing their food because the homeless wanted to eat it

i don't care either, but the videos are pretty fucking shocking. we had major protests here and huge huge complaints about the police's behaviour, which amounted to kettling and heavy-handedness with handling large crowds. but NOTHING anywhere near like the shit you see in these dozens of youtube videos with cops all out dragging people around and punching them. haven't seen that sort of policing since the miner's strike maybe? two decades ago. that's some heavy-handed shit. why hasn't a cop been shot yet? you'd think with so much anger someone would fucking lose their nut.

it is violence when its the police using it. "to protect and to serve" the citizens, right? not to go around sucker-punching them and throwing them on the ground because they offended some cop's ego. that ain't what it's about. i'm pretty sure that guy is protected by the freedom of speech to say "is this what you're about?" and question the police's actions. it shouldn't equal a forceful arrest. not even gonna talk about the guy getting full-on swung for in the background whilst they're making the arrest. why? what for? how is that proper conduct from your own law enforcers?

THEY'D CALL THE PARAMEDICS. they'd call some sort of medical staff to help get that person to safety. there you had a massive line of police watching a guy unconscious bleeding from the head in front of them. a bunch of people went to help him (cause clearly they weren't giving a shit) and they get flashbanged. okay. yeah. great policing. stop being a mong.
