The amazing thing is that video games have basically remained static at $50/each for almost 30 years now. I'm pretty sure I remember NES games costing that much back in the 80s.
I don't see any amount of gameplay justifying 120 dollars.
They have to hike up the prices to cover the costs from thieves like you.Stimey wrote:

I imagine it's your government to blame though
I remember up until the PS1 games were about the equivalent of ~30 euros.
PS2 and xbox games were about 40-50 euros, PC games i think 40-ish at that same time.
Then the 'next-gen' came adn all console game were 60-65 and pc ~55.
Games have definitely gotten more expensive, but part of that can be blamed on the switch to euros. It feels like they just took the fl (1 was around half a euro) price and put a euro symbol in front of it and in some rare and lucky cases they would take a 2 or 5 of it to make it look like they drastically changed their prices with the coming of the euro.
No they don't. That price is pure Aussie import taxes.Pure_Beef_68 wrote:

? Aussie import tax aren't that high. Prices for games are just fucked that way. That's why I order shit online and dodge any tax (anything under 1000AUD or less is duty free). Australian retail is just fucking retarded.Jay wrote:

Im talking about prices in general. I'm sure it doesn't help having people steal the game.Jay wrote:

it's their fault for making gay RPG games for lametards.
but on a serious note, pretty much all digital media in the internet age is feasting on itself
it's a completely non-sustainable way of being. within 10 years something major is going to change in the digital markets, or their policy.

I doubt piracy plays any impact on their price points (except as justification to those that whine about them). They charge as much as they can get away with.Pure_Beef_68 wrote:

pirates are proven to spend more money on content than non pirates. and (i would guess) they are more likely to pay for content from small devs than massive companiesPure_Beef_68 wrote:

No import taxes on games. It's purely because that's what they can get away with.Jay wrote:

I love developers with this point of view, because it is the truth, DRM does nothing but annoy the paying customer...Pure_Beef_68 wrote:

Why would you want to make their lives more difficult?"
I'd love to support developers like this, but I didn't care about Witcher 2 at all...
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
They just haven't adjusted anything for currency exchange rates... thats why i get my buddies to gift me games on steamDrunkFace wrote:

Me neither. Never played it to be honest, just heard it was a far cry back to the days when games weren't piss easy.FloppY_ wrote:

Do you have a link to the study? Was it across all media platforms or just games?Winston_Churchill wrote:

I agree with the idea that the industry and digital content delivery model is flawed (more or less), but that's not justification for pirating.
I never download games. Always pay - if they don't sell, they don't get made.
I think I pirated one game before. It was Madden '07 and I played it for 10 minutes.
I pirate music plenty, but honestly I don't see a good reason to pirate games when 1) most games I buy are worth the pricepoint and 2) I don't really play THAT many games as it is, so it's worth the money
I mean looking at my catalog of games right now, I see:
Forza 4 - 15 hours and counting
Skyrim - 40 hours and counting
Arkham City - probably like 12 hours and counting
Saints Row 3 - 8 hours and counting
Mass Effect - 20 hours or so most likely
Mass Effect 2 - probably 40
NHL 12 - 50 or so
Just Cause 2 - 50
RDR - 70-80
GTA IV - I'd say at the very minimum 150
Fallout: NV - 80
Fallout 3 - 90
So for $60 as compared to a $30 Blu-Ray which will only last me 2 hours until I watch it again in a few months/years and to get that many hours out of it, $60 is well worth it.

TOTALLY BRO
If I could rent a game I could. However I'd rather not spend 60 dollars to be disappointed by a game.
i've bought most of my games in the last 5 years. i've completed/regularly played/been satisfied with < 10% of them.
game design quality is shit, which really does make me want to pirate everything. i even bought skyrim. and i fucking hate it.
i won't be purchasing games for much longer at this rate.

Everyone could have told you that you wouldn't like it.

Australia is the place with the lowest rates of illegal downloads. So illegal downloading has no effect on the consumer price.DrunkFace wrote:
