It depends on the map and side i'm on.  Warlord and I'm on the insurgent.  I generally try to defend either the palace or the palace security office.

I notice that most people run to the plaza on that map.

I always defend if I have a decent crew and something needs defending, otherwise its almost impossible to def a point unless you have a commander who spots.
i go one better, im a defending commander.  i stay in the furthest base from the fight, commit to commanding 100%, and take it upon myself to defend the rear bases...  command as either engineer or as AT.  its handy to be able to drop supply crate for yourself...

My defense comes in the form of killing any enemy that has an objective other then dieing. Usually, the enemy I just killed (or killed me, if be the case) has his eye on that flag thats not too far away. The longer I'm alive and killing peeps, along with the rest of my team in the area, the harder it is, and the longer it will take the enemy to get that flag.

Its a cliche' but Offence is the best form of defence, well in theory. I'll defend as MEC on Cl SWP by attacking there home base and blasting there assets with my c4, while im there I might aswell try and batter as many vehicles as I can and thus defend the island a bit more.

So next time I get the usual question in red of "Is raping allowed on this server"? (it always is where I play). Instead of saying, "fuck off and fix ya UAV" I'll reply with, "fuck off im defending the island". Nice.

I find the best way of defending the Karkand Hotel is to attack as they make there way towards it.  In regards to Wake as PLA I defend the island by going to the edge of the map and blowing away any little rubber boats or blackhawks making there way over. If I was to wait at the beach they might jump out sooner and take nearer bases. For it to work correctly you need a disciplined commander and a disciplined bunch of squads so he can pick on a 4/5/6 man squad and tell them to stay at the beach to pick up any smoking BH's I've damaged. In Theory that is.

Honestly, how many of you can say you defend in the game? On maps such as karkand, when you're MEC, do you spawn at hotel and try and infantry? or do you stay back and wait for them to come for you 99% of you will charge from the hotel. On this map, If I am in armour. I'll mine the water crossing and blow the bridge then wait at the factory - Defence

On Cleansweep, how many of you charge to the end of the island, leaving all the other flags exposed to that sneaky chopper that got round the back? - On this map if I am in chopper, I'll hang around between the two islands and wait for any choppers to try and come round so I can TV them to their death. - Defence

On wake, how many of you run off to snipe on the peninsulas, only to discover 5 minutes later, the beach and the airfield have been taken, you have no uav and you're probably going to lose.

The amount of times I've seen this happen is phenominal - It makes me so angry especially when flags are being taken, USMC are spawning at the flags but people still insist on camping with an m95 trying to shoot down a black hawk.

wtf man?

Some CPs on some maps will always have a steady trickle of soldiers coming to take, in fact I get more score defending certain CPs than I can driving around.

I'd say defending is a bit easier than attacking, so it's a suitable task for lonewolfs or small squads. A SL don't need to worry about getting killed either as he usually can respawn while the other squad members keep the enemy busy. If you defend a CP with a stinger site you can shoot choppers and jets if noone attempts to take the flag.

When a commander see the enemy approaching an undefended CP, I think it's better to give a squad an attack or move order rather than a defend order. Squads unwilling to babysit a CP may accept to go there temporarily if there are enemies to get killed.

Defending is one of the best parts of the game, I find especially on the outcast/runt-of-the-litter map Zatar Wetlands - those little stations with about three entrances and two main entrances - they're great to defend. If you have a good squad you can defend against any assault, and I mean ANY assault without any casualties, (my squad had one casualty the enitre six wave assault, the Medic unfortunatly.)

But many times I have even been in te middle of a point hapily sniping away and become completely oblivious that the point I'm at has been taken over. I suppose that's tribute to my camoflage abilities.

As a sniper I am mostly covering 2 flags if possible.... defending one, while "offending" the other

what's the difference between (actively) defending a flag and camping it?  Sure you can leave claymores or strategically placed AT mines but when it boils down to a squad attacking a flag, you need to be there to defend it properly.  And then you get accused of camping...
