Girlfriend's dad is wanting an E-reader as he's going travelling soon. What's the best one to get at the moment?

You should probably wait and see what happens with all this fraud lawsuit business

I have the nook touch.  Best $100 i've spent in a while.  Read over a dozen books on it since I got it a couple months ago.

the kobo could last you at least 4-5 books, if not more. the ipad has a totally different screen that saps way more battery

I'd probably rather get one of the more e-papery kindles if I was going to read anything on it.

As somebody with both an ipad and a kindle, I'd say definitely one with an e-ink display. So much nicer to read on, much less eye strain. Also the battery lasts days and days, not a couple hours.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

The whole point of E-readers is that they (most of them) use E-ink displays that only use power when they cycle pixels, that's why the battery can last for so long...

I've got a kindle. Such a good purchase.

I have an iPad and a Sony E-Reader. The E-Reader shits all over the iPad for reading books - though the iPad menus and page transitions are much, much nicer.

The only thing the iPad is really good for reading is stuff in colour (I use it for comics). If you're just reading text it's far from being the most suitable device.

Personally, I prefer the Sony E-Reader over Kindles and all the others I've used. In many ways it seems the most basic - but it's much easier to reformat your books the way you like them and stuff like that. All the others manage to piss me off in some way and I quite like the way you open it like a book.

This. Supposed to last 30 days with Wi-Fi off. I've read more books because of it than I would normally. I run out, download a new one straight away.

I've had the 3g + keyboard kindle 2 for nearly a year now, and it was an awesome investment for reading books. I highly reccommend it for reading. I do not suggest you get the non-eink kindles with the intent that people use them to read. Battery life won't be as good, but primarily the eink is lighter in the hand and the display is significantly better for reading.

I normally read about 2 hours a day, 5 days a week (train commute), and the battery easily lasts 3 weeks with the 3g off on mine.

I think I've charged mine 3 times in 6months. Used it quite a bit in the last 3 months.
