Sensitivity is completely up to you man, just use whatever feels best for you and your joystick. Give it some practice runs on a local multiplayer server and find out what works best. I generally suggest people with joysticks use the program JoyToKey, however yours doesn't really have enough buttons to make that program very useful, but if you feel the need to remap some of the buttons to do different things then I recommend JTK.

I have a Saitek ST290 and when i try to map the horizontal axis in the aircraft controls screen it says it's already in use for aircraft which isn't true. I can assign all other buttons and axes without any problems.
Does any1 know whats wrong here?

I doubt this is a problem with your specific joystick since I have had it happen for random keys. Your best bet is to just open and edit the controls.con file manually and remove the extra horizontal axis mapping that is surely in there somewhere.

Install any software that it might need, plug it in, go to bf2 controls and map it like you would anything else... Then fly like the wind!

I found this and had a bit of a weird glitch. Basically when I configured my joystick in BF2 for up/down and left/right I only had to do it once each. Eg, when I set 'up' in the helo section, I pulled the joystick back (as you'd expect) and it mapped up AND down to joy axis 0 or something. If you try and do 'down', thats when you get the error telling you that yuou already have it mapped. Don't worry, it doesn realise that pushing forward means 'down'.

I use joystick strictly for pitch and roll, and weapons and flares of course, throttle and ruddle/steer I use my keyboard w/s for throttle and a/d for steer/rudder, works great imo.

I got the same joystick too (2nd cheapest at compusa) and had no problems mapping it, you just have to make sure that you push exactly left for left and down for pitch up, etc.. One prob I have with this joystick is I can't map the digital throttle buttons. Let me know if you have any luck, maybe with some sorta patch or something...

Klymax, I have that joystick also.  Is there a way to increase the sensitivity?  I don't feel like the jets respond quick enough for me.
