I use the default Keyboard and mouse settings although to begin with I struggled. Try turning the sensitivity up to max and practice by yourself on Dalian Plant 64 man. You should find that the mouse-keyboard approach is a lttle easier. I know a lot of the aviators on here fly with joystikcs but I can't offer any advice on that ... only that I have ordered one to give it a try and I'll let you know.

Anyway, my advice again, stick with the mouse and keyboard - make sure your sensitivity is maxed out and practice Hope that helps

The most annoying is the attack helis..  even the slightest tilt and I end up tipping over....the jets are not too bad.....at the moment I use a Z board and an MX518 mouse...

It just pi**es me off when as soon as you get off the ground some hairy is shooting you down ..lol....and Im thinking how the Fu*k do they do that!

I can fly jets with mouse and keyboard, but helis I found impossible.
With a joystick they are much easier as you have a variable throttle, twist and pitch.
I would recommend the one I use (Saitek Cyborg evo) but I don't know about pads.

I am a fairly accomplished chopper pilot and I've always used mouse/keyboard for that.  I flew jet's with the same until recently when I switched to a Logitech Wingman Extreme joystick and I think I have gotten much better.  The jet requires things like 360 loops and extended turning that are more difficult with a mouse because you have to keep picking up the mouse and resetting it in order to continue turning.  With the stick, you just pull back and hold it indefinately.  In addition, most joysticks have many more buttons (mine has like 8 if you include the directional thumbstick) so you can "check your 6", switch weapons, remove the cockpit graphic, etc. without removing your right hand from the control.   I'm not an amazing pilot yet but I'm working on it, so for what it's worth, that's my $.02.

I use the Saitek cyborg evo also, and its absolutely wonderful jet flying!,but its not so great for choppers, so I still use K/B & mouse for helis. There is a little trick I don't know how many use it but here goes...use the variable throttle control from your joystick to help you "hover" by setting at about 3/8 positive throttle, when I set my joystick up I have the throttle in the "middle", so when I drop it to the bottom of its range its in full reverse,  way smoother for the chopper! and your finger doesn't have to rest on your power key and can control with the other keys easier, Still keeping the main throttle controls on the keys as well for fast input changes. as for setting the sensitivity to max... Well that don't work so well for me, as I tend to do BACKFLIPS too often! lol . My joystick is at 9.30 mouse sens.,pitch and roll at 1 each, all directional keys on K/B disabled mouse control disable so its just me and my "stick" (don't let your gutter mind get the better of you)8), hat for front and "6", side flyby views, buttons for afterburner and flares, stick buttons for changing weapons and firing, and trigger for main gun. for "Heli" I think I'm at 3.50 mouse sens., pitch and roll at 3 each. Seems a little sluggish but I am way to jittery when I attempt to chopper whore so it works ...hope this helps

Oh yea , the EVO is for either hand and has an adjustable palm rest height with three base buttons on each side
I would recommend the USB one as its a "little" heavier and you don't have to hold it in place so hard
