Be good to think of a new national day for NZ. Our current one, (Waitangi Day,) sucks. You can't even wish someone a "Happy Waitangi Day" because it's not about being happy, it's about being sore and victimised over a 170+ year-old piece of rat-eaten paper that means even less now than it did at its inception. People protest and abuse police and politicians and if it hits on a weekend the day off isn't even pushed to the next Monday. No fireworks, no drinking, no being happy - and when ex-pat Kiwis celebrate in London, (because they can't in NZ, celebrations would be offensive,) by going on a pub crawl people have the nerve to say it paints a bad image for NZ. I agree it'd be nice if the ex-pats celebrated the NZ way by verbally abusing everyone and throwing mud at each other but we can't have everything we want can we.

At this stage having a national day to celebrate when we beat Australia in the cricket last December would have more meaning.
