It's stupid to you, but you've been taught that animals are more than just food. That worldview is laughable anywhere else but the developed world. Vegetarians in the undeveloped/developing world are vegetarians because they are poor and can't afford meat. It's not a lifestyle choice to them. But keeping them in small, air-tight containers has nothing to do with morals, but only with incredible stupidity by taking a street vendor's word about survivability in such a small thing.
China only cares for animals like pandas, which they can use for propaganda.
